Flowers occupy a special place at any dacha in suburban settlements, because they are the ones that decorate the backyard territory to a greater extent. Among amateur gardeners, an attractive flower called petunia is especially popular
In addition, it is not necessary to plant this plant in the garden, it can also develop well on the balcony. But often growing petunias causes some problems and nuances that not every gardener will immediately deal with on their own.
The choice of ampelous petunias for growing on the balcony
Usually, in the spring period of the year, ampelous petunias are sold in pots, the diameter of which, at the appropriate retail outlets. Typically around twenty two centimeters. One planter can hold up to three flowers. When choosing and purchasing a plant, special attention should be paid to the condition of the flower.
It is better to refuse to purchase petunias if the shoot area below is bare. If there are no leaves at the bottom of the stem, then this can only mean one thing: the flowers must need to be formed. Very long shoots are also a reason for refusing to purchase a plant. In addition to the need to form, such a flower will also be difficult to transport.
To move the ampelous petunia from the market to the house, you need to think in advance about the place and prepare it for the arrival of a new guest. This place must necessarily be very light, since otherwise the internodes will stretch in length, and the flowers themselves will be small and lose their decorative appearance.
How to water ampel petunia?
Watering the flowers of the ampelous petunia also needs to be given special attention. The plant is constantly in the process of dynamic growth, and its vegetative mass is increasing. But the roots cannot grow, since the space for this in the pot is limited. As a result of such circumstances, the water poured into the ground where the petunia grows will be absorbed quite quickly.
If there are hot days outside with dry air and no rain, then watering should be done at least twice a day. It is best to do this both in the morning and in the evening. Few make sure that moisture gets into the root system of the plant, but in the case of ampel petunia, this condition is especially important. The roots of the flower should be thoroughly blotted. Then petunia will not experience a moisture deficit. As a result of such proper care, the plant will begin to develop and grow faster, and its appearance will delight the owners and guests of the house. Dried flowers will no longer be able to regain their attractiveness, since their shoots will immediately begin to bare themselves, and the lower part of the stem will look like wood. Flowers in such a situation become very small.
Petunias in special pots with soil in the form of peat substrates must be completely filled with water about once every seven days. This will help completely saturate the plant with moisture, and will also allow the roots of ampel petunia to develop as fully as possible. But it is very important to make sure that the moisture level is not too high. To do this, water the soil only when it is dry.
It is very easy to check this by feeling what the upper part of the soil is to the touch.
You can reduce the number of waterings if, after purchasing a petunia, immediately transplant it into a substrate with a hydrogel added to it. This combination ensures that water is retained and transferred to the roots of the flower. The use of a hydrogel, as a substance, can reduce the number of required irrigations by two or three times. But most of all it is convenient for those people who do not have the opportunity to travel to the country more often than once a week (on weekends).
Top dressing of ampelous petunia
Houseplants in the form of ampelous petunias need to be fed about once a week or five days. The fertilizer itself should be complex in nature and include a large amount of phosphorus and potassium. It is better to feed new varieties of petunias at all after each watering, gradually reducing the concentration. As a result, the owner of the flower will receive an excellent appearance of a flowering cascade with an ideal shape. It is most convenient to use liquid fertilizers, but you must always observe a dose of at least five grams per ten liters of water.
