Despite the fact that stumps in summer cottages do not appear so often (this usually happens during the process of natural withering away of various fruit trees), from time to time it is still necessary to get rid of them. At the same time, many summer residents believe that this is an extremely difficult task - in fact, with a competent approach, it is quite possible to get rid of stumps without excessive efforts
The main ways of uprooting stumps
Of course, the process of uprooting stumps is far from the easiest and rather troublesome business, but you can't do without it either. Therefore, the most important thing is to competently approach the choice of the most practical and convenient way of uprooting stumps. And this choice is made depending on the size of the stump itself and on the dimensions of the site.
Currently, summer residents actively use three methods of uprooting stumps: mechanical (when choosing this method, special technical devices or equipment are used), manual (in this situation, small and simple working tools will be quite enough) and chemical (as the name suggests, in in this case, the destruction of stumps is carried out using a wide variety of chemicals).
Mechanical method
The use of all kinds of techniques significantly speeds up and greatly simplifies the process of getting rid of interfering stumps. It is important to understand that too large stumps with very deep roots can really be removed only with the help of technology. But only if it is planned to use a tractor for these purposes, you will have to think carefully about how exactly it will be possible to "let" it into the site. However, if there is no opportunity to enter the site on a tractor, it is quite possible to use a chainsaw or a special crusher machine. True, the chainsaw will only help to get rid of the above-ground part of the stump, and you will have to take extra care of removing the roots. But the crusher machine, which is often called a grubber, is good because it can be safely used even in the densest thickets, and it is capable of crushing wood directly to the state of sawdust, and to the entire depth of the stump! So there is always a choice!
Manual way
In the absence of expensive technical devices, you can also use it manually. To do this, you will have to arm yourself with an ax and the most ordinary shovel, which can easily be found in the arsenal of any summer resident. If the stump is relatively small, it makes sense to dig it around to a depth of one meter. When the roots are completely exposed, they are immediately chopped off, and the rest is pry off with a crowbar. Then they forcefully press the crowbar, and that's it - the stump is gone!
And especially resourceful summer residents sometimes resort to the help of fire - holes are drilled inside the stump, into which the liquid for ignition is subsequently poured. After ignition, it is imperative to monitor the access of oxygen, promptly eliminating ash residues from burnt-out recesses. If the stump is still fresh enough, and there is no opportunity to drill a hole in it, you can safely start a fire right on the cut - the top of the stump will gradually burn out, slowly getting to the roots, after which the stump can be uprooted without much effort.
Small single stumps can be eliminated using a winch - a thick rope or cable is attached to the stump itself, and the winch is installed on a nearby tree. The stump is pre-dug at a distance of one to one and a half meters from the base - this is necessary in order to open the roots, which are immediately chopped off with an ax. And only then you can take up the winch.
Ordinary water is also suitable for these purposes - a hole is dug around the hemp at a distance of one meter, after which, under the pressure of water, they begin to gradually wash out the soil. And when the roots are thoroughly washed out and the stump "hangs", you can easily cut its roots.
Chemical method
When resorting to this method, it is important not to forget that after uprooting by this method, the soil will lose its suitability for sowing for three whole years. As a rule, table salt, sodium nitrate or carbamide (urea) are used to remove stumps chemically. Especially often summer residents resort to the help of saltpeter - it is introduced into the stump, and after a year this stump is set on fire and the remains of ash are removed.
Urea is put into pre-drilled holes, after which the stump is well wrapped with plastic wrap, and by the next season only memories will remain from it.
As for table salt, it is simply sprinkled on stumps abundantly - gradually mixing with rainwater, it will saturate the wood skeletons, turning them into dust. As you can see, there are many ways to get rid of stumps, so you just have to choose the option that suits you best!
