How to sow a lawn
There are no difficulties in creating a lawn, it is important to observe the sowing technology. Digging up the soil, scattering the seeds and watering periodically, there is no guarantee that you will have uniform seedlings and there will be no bald spots on the lawn.
The main mistake of inexperienced gardeners is the illiterate choice of seed. To obtain a dense, uniform coverage, you need to choose the right grass mixture for your lawn. This is influenced by several factors:
• degree of illumination;
• type of soil;
• type / purpose of the lawn.
Based on this, you will select the seeds of the desired herb or the types of ready-made mixtures. On sale there are grass mixtures for shady areas, sunny places, frost- and drought-resistant. There are variants of lawns resistant to trampling: "sport", "playground", "football field", etc. If you wish, you can buy a grass mixture with flowers / Moorish lawns, undersized / dwarf, parterre, displacing weeds.
If you want to make a lawn on the site, choose the right varieties of grasses and follow the seeding rates. The packaging contains information on the consumption of material. Never reduce the indicated amount, savings are inappropriate here. Some of the seeds will not sprout, a new portion of grass will have to be planted in the bald patches that have appeared, this is a new waste and effort.
For reference, herbs resistant to trampling, disease, drought, frost: narrow-leaved meadow bluegrass, red fescue. These species should be present in ready-made mixtures for temperate climates.
Lawn planting recommendations
It will not be possible to get dense turf with dense grass in 1 year. It takes 2-3 years for a powerful root system to appear. Consider the main points of growing a man-made lawn.
1. Work begins with defining the contour of the object. The selected area is carefully freed from hemp and debris. Weeds are destroyed by hand or by herbicides. Fertilizers (organic, mineral) are introduced.
2. The prepared soil is dug up, leveled with a rake, and compacted. If you follow the rules of professionals, then after digging, the soil is rammed with a roller and kept until sowing for 1-2 months.
3. Seeds are distributed evenly at the rate of 30-50 g per square meter / meter. In small areas, to increase germination, seeds are sprinkled with a peat mixture / loose soil, pressed / compacted (roller, plywood, which should be walked on).
Sow the lawn in calm weather so that the seeds are not carried by the wind. The layer of covered earth should not exceed 1.5 cm. The use of a seeder helps to ensure uniform distribution. You can do it manually: scatter the seeds in different directions (longitudinally-across).
The first watering is carried out with shallow sprinkling, otherwise the seeds will be washed off and bald spots will form. Friendly shoots will appear after a week. In places where no shoots have appeared within two weeks, an additional overseeding is done.
Lawn with trellis
All suburban areas have places where the grass suffers from active loads: parking lots, areas with sun loungers / swings, garden paths. To maintain an aesthetic appearance and preserve the root system, these places are strengthened.
The lawn grill protects against mechanical injury, erosion, subsidence, slipping (inclined surfaces). Before sowing the grass, a reinforcing material is laid in these places. The plastic lawn grating is durable and is considered a practical option.
The grille mounting technology consists of several steps:
• geotextiles are laid on the leveled surface;
• further drainage layer of rubble (20-40 cm);
• a layer of sand / soil (3-5 cm);
• lawn lattice;
• a layer of fertile soil to cover the grating at half the height;
• sowing seeds.
After distributing the grass mixture, the grate is covered / covered with earth. The cells should be filled with soil and slightly covered on top. After watering, after 5 days, sprouts will begin to appear.
