In young plants, the bark is light brown, in old plants it is brown, sometimes brown, as if scaly. Leaves are smooth above, slightly edged below, cuttings, alternate. Flowers with a pleasant aroma, white and pink. Fruits are round in shape, orange in color, turn brown by the time they are harvested and dried, growing on 7-10 cm long lemongrass. Lemongrass grows mainly in mixed deciduous forests, on mountain slopes, braiding tree trunks and shrubs. Found in the Far East, Sakhalin, Kuril Islands, in the Primorsky Territory. We also grow it in gardens and orchards. The plant has medicinal properties, it will be, even, not a bad helper for people who want to maintain a cheerful mood.
Disembarkation rules
Schisandra chinensis respects light, you should not plant it in places where sunlight does not penetrate, but he does not like the sun. It is worth choosing a place where it is light, but there will be no direct sunlight. It is not difficult to grow lemongrass, it is a very unpretentious plant. Does not like lemongrass and too moist soil, watering should be uniform, without flooding the rhizomes with water. Liana propagates both by layering and by seeds. A shrub is planted as a hedge, after having built supports. If you decide to purchase seedlings, instead of tormenting with rhizomes and cuttings, growing them, then they need to be planted in the fall in the ground. When buying lemongrass seedlings, ask at what depth the seedlings grew, in the future they need to be planted at the same depth.
It is important! The depth of the landing pit is about half a meter, the width is the same. Place manure and superphosphates at the bottom. Before planting, dip the rhizome in a clay solution. Spread out the roots so that they do not bend. Sprinkle with earth and water well. The distance between seedlings should be at least 1.5 meters. If done correctly, the shrub will begin to bear fruit at the age of three.
If you have somewhere to get seeds, you can try sowing lemongrass and growing the seedlings yourself. This is done in winter, in January. To do this, you need to soak the seeds for 4 days, the water needs to be changed every day. Then take out the seeds, spread them on a cloth, let them dry and bury them in the sand. In this state, keep until spring, sometimes digging up and placing the seeds in water, then letting them dry and placing them back in the sand. After 3-4 weeks, take the bucket with sand and seeds to the basement, or the refrigerator, leave it there until the end of winter, two or three weeks before sowing, remove the bucket with seeds from the basement, and leave it in the room. The seeds will have to sprout. While the planting material is left to germinate, we will take up the land. Dig up and furrow the earth, the distance between the grooves is about 20 cm. Add manure or humus to each groove. They took out the seeds and sifted them into these grooves. They covered it with an earthen cap and stamped it a little. Don't forget about watering. We are waiting for seedlings.
