The tile laying technology is not an extremely complex process, and all the relevant work can be done without much difficulty with your own hands. At the same time, you will avoid unnecessary costs associated with attracting expensive specialists. So what do you need to know in order to tile these or those sections of the summer cottage yourself? Let's figure it out

Tile laying methods

So, before proceeding directly to the choice of the color and shape of our paving stones, you need to decide how exactly it will fit.

Remember! The size, shape and color of tiles directly depend on the way the tiles are laid.

Let's consider the most popular schemes.

• Orderly stacking

This method is considered the most simple and at the same time - classic. The elements are arranged sequentially one after the other so that their edges form a straight line. In this case, it is best to choose rectangular or square paving stones.

• Offset laying

It is also a fairly common method that is considered traditional. In this case, the joints of the tiles do not coincide, but in general they form the same "wave" shape. The use of several types, both shades and textures, looks great here. But remember that when using this diagram, all elements must be the same shape.

• Staggered laying

This method uses tiles of at least two colors with equal sides. Despite the seeming simplicity of the cover, such a path, due to the "play" of colors, looks more impressive, and also such an arrangement gives it additional stability.

• Herringbone styling

This method is perhaps the most difficult. He assumes that the elements will be located relative to each other at angles. Most often they are placed at 45 or 90 degrees. The use of several colors is also encouraged here, elements of both rectangular and curly shapes are allowed.

Healthy! Craftsmen also use a more complex type of "herringbone". She got the name "braid". In this case, the longitudinal masonry is alternated with the transverse one, and all this with strict adherence to the pattern. The complexity of the technique is that when working with more than two colors, it is very easy to get confused.

• Laying with geometric shapes

In this case, various geometric shapes are laid out with the help of elements. But it is difficult to do it qualitatively without special measuring equipment.

Features of laying tiles

When the owner has decided on the laying method, he needs to calculate the area of the covered surface. Well, then proceed directly to the choice of tiles. And here, depending on the purpose (location), you need to take into account a number of its important characteristics:

• ability to withstand a certain load;

• smoothness or texture of the surface;

• possibility and convenience of its processing (sawing and grinding).

Next, we prepare the surface on which we will lay our tiles. For this we need:

• a shovel, with the help of which, depending on the height of the tiles, it will be necessary to go deeper into the ground by 10-30 cm;

• sand, crushed stone or gravel and geotextiles; of tools - rammer.

Sand is poured onto the ground in a layer of about 10 cm, which is then moistened (usually, it is watered with a hose) and rammed.

Next, we lay geotextiles, which we sprinkle with a layer (about 10 cm) of crushed stone or gravel. We ram. Sprinkle with another 5 centimeters of sand. Moisten and tamp again. Our so-called "pillow" is ready.

Important! The ramming is done using specialized vibratory rammers or rolling devices. In the absence of such, a manual rammer is usually used.

Now you can proceed directly to laying our tiles. Here we cannot do without a rubber joiner's hammer and a building level (spirit level). Along the pre-tensioned guides, one by one, we lay the tiles on the level and carefully ram them with a hammer so that gaps of several millimeters remain between the elements. A cement-sand mixture is then poured into them (usually based on cement mortar of the M-150 and M-200 grades). Water again. Ready! It remains for us to remove all debris from the surface and install curbs near which to lay the gutters.

It is worth considering that the entire structure should have a small negative angle to the place of the pre-planned stack. This is necessary so that water does not accumulate on the surface.

From now on, you will not only forget about the mud on your "hacienda", but you will also be able to enjoy its aesthetic appearance, turning your suburban area into a place for both work and relaxation.
