Spectacular Cryptocoryne Wendt

Cryptocoryna Wendta is an inhabitant of the most picturesque swampy bodies of water in luxurious Sri Lanka. By the way, in aquariums, she also feels very good. Throughout all seasons, this green beauty shows a fairly uniform rate of growth. The design of any aquarium is instantly transformed if it contains Wendt's Cryptocorynes. And this spectacular aquatic inhabitant is quite unpretentious to the conditions of detention

Getting to know the plant

Cryptocoryne Wendt forms picturesque, not particularly dense thickets and often grows up to thirty centimeters in height.

At the moment, four forms of a spectacular water beauty are distinguished, all of them differ in the shape of the leaves and their color. The most popular among aquarists is the variety with fancy oblong leaves that can be tinted olive or dark green. A variety with brownish leaves is also in demand. This is due to the fact that both of the above forms are distinguished by rather high decorative properties and easily adapt to new living conditions.

How to grow

The best option for growing Wendt's wonderful Cryptocoryne will definitely be a tropical aquarium, in which the temperature should be maintained between twenty-four and twenty-eight degrees. In the case of its decrease, Wendt's Cryptocoryne tends to significantly slow down its growth.

Perhaps the main condition for the successful growth and comfort of a spectacular aquatic inhabitant is a well-silted soil. Well, if the soil is new, then it will need to be systematically fed with a mixture of peat and clay with the addition of coal and aquarium silt. And as a substrate, a mixture of large river sand with small pebbles will be ideal. If the substrate consists entirely of large particles, then Wendt's Cryptocoryne will begin to form stepchildren near the mother bushes, which will lead to discomfort for both - tiny stepsons will be suppressed by the overgrown mother specimens, and the mother bushes will be deficient in nutrient compounds. The soil layer should be at least five centimeters, since the root system of Wendt's Cryptocoryne is quite well developed.

The hardness of the aquatic environment should be tried to be maintained at an average level, in the range from nine to sixteen degrees. If the water turns out to be too soft, the wonderful aquatic inhabitant will be much more susceptible to the extremely unpleasant cryptocoryne disease, in which, in a short period of time, she is able to shed her funny leaves. And the active reaction of the aqueous medium, ideally, should be weakly acidic or slightly alkaline.

As for a water change, Wendt's luxurious Cryptocoryne usually does not need it - it will grow equally productively in fresh water and in old one. But twice a month, you need to try to add nutritious supplements to the water from small doses of valuable trace elements - for this, 0.1 mg of molybdenum, manganese and boron with copper is taken per liter of water. Iron (bivalent), added in similar doses, will be no less useful.

Direct sunlight will be extremely undesirable for the amazing Cryptocoryne Wendt. And for the organization of artificial lighting, fluorescent lamps are usually combined with simple incandescent lamps. Well, the daylight hours of this aquatic inhabitant under any circumstances should be equal to at least twelve hours.

The spectacular aquatic beauty reproduces vegetatively, by dividing creeping and very long rhizomes or tiny basal offspring. By the way, it is allowed to separate and transplant new specimens to another place only after at least two or three leaves are formed on them.

Sometimes Wendt's Cryptocoryne is also kept in humid greenhouses. Of course, in this case it will look less interesting than in an aquarium, but it will grow much faster in greenhouses and may even please with its colorful flowering.
