It is difficult to pass by the miniature blue-eyed bushes. Heavenly inflorescences daily delight with their appearance, outwardly they look like stars that have descended to earth. Of a hundred species in the conditions of the Middle Belt, sisyurinhiy narrow-leaved, which is a perennial, winters well. Our story will be about him. The history of migration of an unusual plant is interesting

Legends of antiquity

North America became the homeland of the Sisyurinhia. In the wild, it grows in the Hawaiian Islands, Poland, Germany, Greenland.

He came to the European part of the globe in the 17th century. Initially, he took a fancy to the gardens of Austria, Germany, France, England. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was brought by Count Razumovsky, a collector of beautiful flowers, to Russia for his own estate in the Moscow region.

Several times sisyurinhium unexpectedly appeared in places far from large botanical nurseries, literally from the void. After some time, he disappeared from the detection point. Dozens of years later, it grew in a new area, thousands of kilometers from the previous range.

Scientists still cannot explain this phenomenon of the mysterious flower. What makes him migrate around the world without human intervention?

Biological features

Miniature bushes reach a height of 15-20 cm. The rhizome is short with a fibrous "beard". Leaves, stems end at the same level. The xiphoid plates are green with a light bluish bloom rushing upward, outwardly resembling close relatives of irises. Collected in basal bunches at the base of the bush.

The stem is smooth, ending in an umbellate raceme with buds up to 1.5 cm in diameter. Every day, a new batch of inflorescences blooms - six-pointed stars of blue-blue hue, with a yellow center. Mass flowering lasts 3-4 weeks from late May to June. Closer to autumn, dark brown, rounded seeds, collected in boxes, ripen.

Preferences

In the wild, it grows in cracks in rocks, prairies, mountains, meadows. Prefers moderate humidity. Not picky about soils.

Short roots are not able to provide the plant with enough water. During prolonged drought, it can die without additional watering.

Loves sunny or openwork semi-shady places. Hibernates in the Middle Lane without additional shelter.

Planting, leaving

Prepare the soil 2 weeks before planting:

• scatter rotted compost over the surface;

• dig up shovels on the bayonet, picking out the roots of weeds;

• add sand on clay soils;

• crush lumps with a rake, leveling the surface;

• mark the holes in a checkerboard pattern every 20-25 cm.

On the day of planting, the pits are watered with a fertilizer solution. Seedlings are planted, spreading the roots. The base of the leaf is left flush with the ground. Sprinkle the soil. Gently squeeze the substrate around the plants.

The first week is watered more often than usual (as the top layer dries). In the future, watering during dry periods is brought up to 2-3 times a decade. They are fed with complex fertilizer twice a season: in early spring, during flowering.

At the end of June, flower shoots are cut if there is no need for seeds. This technique helps plants to form lush bushes, quickly build up green mass.

They remove weeds at a young age, preventing the roots of "competitors" from growing stronger. They loosen after rains, watering the soil between rows, closing the evaporation of moisture. The adjacent soil is mulched with sawdust, peat.

Place in the flower garden

Sisyurinhiy is an excellent partner on alpine slides, rocky gardens for blue-and-white plants: viola, muscari, hyacinths, low-growing early irises, quinodoxa, lumbago, Siberian woodland, daisies.

Looks good next to higher representatives: hosts, forget-me-not, brunner, primroses, alpine aster, rejuvenated.

Suitable for border plantings, foreground of complex mixborders, rockeries. Planted by a group, creates a vibrant sky blue carpet. After flowering, it does not lose its decorative effect due to its green narrow leaves.

We will consider the reproduction of blue-eyed in the next article.
