Unfortunately, not every climate contributes to the rapid maturation of crops growing on the site. And if completely unexpected whims of the weather are added to this, the coveted harvest can not be expected at all. However, there is no need to panic - there are a number of tricks with which you can speed up the ripening process of cabbage, tomatoes, onions and many other garden crops
Cabbage
The longest period of growth is typical for Brussels sprouts, therefore, first of all, it is important to help this particular crop, if, of course, it was planted in the garden. In order for the mouth-watering heads to ripen faster, it is recommended to carefully remove the very tops of the stems. And in broccoli and cauliflower, it is recommended to carefully collect all the leaves together, after which they are tied in such a way that the inflorescences of these crops are reliably covered.
Tomatoes
To accelerate the ripening of tomatoes in early August, it is recommended to remove all stepsons with buds, and also to cut off all yellowing leaves and pinch the growth points. And in order to avoid possible contact of juicy fruits with the ground, the plants must be tied up.
Spraying tomato bushes with a 1.5% superphosphate solution also gives a good effect. Another option is to slightly tear the roots: for this, each bush is taken by the base of the stem and neatly stretches towards itself.
You can pierce and drag the lower parts of the stems with copper wire, doing this at a height of about five centimeters from the ground - this procedure will redirect the flow of nutrients and provide plants with additional reliable protection against late blight. And you can also fold the brushes with the already poured, but not yet ripe fruits into plastic bags along with apples - ethylene secreted by juicy fruits will noticeably speed up the ripening process of tomatoes.
Onion
In order for the bulbs to fully ripen, they need dry and warm weather. So in the event that heavy or very long rains suddenly began, it makes sense to install strong frames over the onion beds and prudently cover the growing crops with a film. And the roots of the bulbs are recommended to be slightly trimmed with any sharp tool (with a flat cutter or something like it), after which you need to slightly remove the soil from the bulbs, trying to bare them by about half.
Carrot
The tops of carrots are usually cut, trying to leave only small "tails", completely devoid of leaves, and the length of these "tails" should not exceed five to six centimeters. True, it is advisable to resort to this method only with constant prolonged rains - useful root crops in this case will reach readiness much faster and will not crack.
Pumpkin
It is recommended to remove all newly forming female flowers from the pumpkin, leaving only three to five ovaries on each plant - this will be more than enough. And in long-leaved varieties, the very tips of the shoots are carefully pinched. It should be borne in mind that for the development of each pumpkin on the shoots above the ovaries, there must be four to five leaves!
Peppers with eggplant
In the lower parts of the powerful stems of these crops, small longitudinal cuts about ten centimeters long are made, after which the plant tissues are carefully pushed apart and inserted into each stem by a small wooden peg four to five millimeters thick. And only after that, the roots of the plants are carefully torn a little with the help of a sharp shovel. In addition, in the case of peppers and eggplants, it is necessary to systematically loosen the top soil layer as well. And closer to the end of the season, the stalks with the fruits that did not have time to finally ripen are dug up and hung in the premises with the roots up.
Have you ever tried to accelerate the maturation of crops growing on your site? And how did you do it?
