Onion yield is 80% dependent on the preparation of the planting material. Get acquainted with the rules for processing bulbs and agricultural practices for spring planting
Preparing onions for planting
Preparatory manipulations with seed heads, called onion sets, help to activate growth and reduce the risk of disease. They consist of four stages.
Checking planting material
Onions are scattered on the table, dry, damaged, with signs of disease are sorted out. Large ones are selected for the pen. Specimens with signs of mold, rot, with black spots on the scales are subject to rejection.
Drying, warming up
Drying of onions - reduces glass transition by 70-80%. This is a must for a purchased set, as it was stored at low temperatures. Place the planting material in a warm room for a week (+ 20 … + 25).
With the time limit, the procedures can be accelerated. Warm up over a battery or other heat source (+ 30 … + 40) for 8-10 hours. The fastest and most effective way to heat onions is to dip them into hot water. It is applied immediately before planting. In a saucepan, a bucket, water + 50 … + 60. Seedlings "take a hot bath" for 2-3 minutes, then immerse them in cold water for 1 minute.
Stimulating growth
Soaking in Zircon (Quote, Biostim), any selected drug activates the onions, after planting they germinate faster. In the nutrient solution, the seedlings are kept for 1-3 hours, water at room temperature. Instructions for diluting the solution are indicated on the package.
scheme
There is an old-fashioned method of activating growth. Sevok is soaked for 15 minutes in water + 35 … + 45 - no more. It is kept in cold water for 10 minutes. Before planting, the bottom is dipped in ash.
Pest control
The defeat of the onion fly makes it impossible to use the feather, does not allow a full-fledged turnip to grow, and reduces the yield. Saline treatment can help eliminate this problem.
From an onion fly, dissolve 3 tbsp in a bucket of water. l. salt. Sevok is soaked in this brine for a day, after planting it becomes unattractive to the pest.
Copper sulfate helps to protect onions from fungal diseases. For the solution, 1 tsp is taken. + 10 liters of water. Soaking is carried out for 3-5 minutes, then the seed is rinsed with plain water and dried. Often summer residents use other methods to prevent diseases, activate growth:
• soaking in a weak manganese solution;
• aging in saltpeter (1 tsp + 10 l of water), 20-30 minutes is enough;
• Ash infusion is popular (10 l + 1 liter can of wood ash).
Treatment from pests is considered a universal method, since it not only excludes the defeat of onions by fungi, pests, but also accelerates germination.
How to plant onions in spring
Mostovoy
The optimal time for planting seedlings is the warmed-up land, which has retained moisture from the snow cover. In the Moscow region, this is the first week of May or the last of April. The time frame differs depending on the region.
If the antifungal treatment of the seed was not carried out, spill the soil with phytosporin or copper sulfate (1 tbsp. L + 10 l of water). It is advisable to do this a couple of weeks before planting.
On the prepared bed, grooves are made at intervals of 20-25 cm, 4-5 cm deep, spilled with warm water. When planting, the distance between the onions depends on their size. The smallest ones up to 1 cm are laid with an interval of 5 cm, 1, 5-3 cm with a step of 8 cm, 10 are left between the large ones (from 3 cm).
Tape
After sprinkling with earth, the deepening should be 2-2.5 cm above the shoulders. If the layer of earth turns out to be less, growth will stop in the heat, more - the shape of the bulb will change, ripening will be delayed. If properly planted, the first feathers will appear in 5-7 days. Popular onion varieties for obtaining heads Stardust, Sturon, Stuttgarter Riesen, Red Baron, Centurion, Kaba, Exibishen.
If you are not interested in getting a turnip onion, but only need greens, then planting takes place according to a different scheme. For a feather, the onion is planted tightly by the bridge method, deepening the heads in half, 1, 2-2 kg can be "laid" per 1 sq / m. The second method is tape: the grooves are small 2-3 cm with a step of 10-15 cm, between the onions 2-3 cm. The best varieties of onions on a feather are Amber, Bessonovsky, Rostovsky, Arzamassky, Black Prince.
