Growing fennel

If you want to harvest healthy fennel seeds, it is best to start sowing in June. By this month, the ground warms up enough for seedlings to appear quickly. But at the same time, the plant will not bloom this year. If you hurry with the crops, the fennel will bloom, but the seeds will not have time to ripen. With the approach of cold weather, you must not forget to insulate the garden with humus and spruce branches, you can use straw manure. Before this, the plants are cut at a height of about 5-6 cm. In such conditions, the perennial will winter well, and next spring it will soon grow back, bloom and make it possible to harvest seeds. It can be grown in one place for 3 years.

Sowing is done to a depth of approximately 1-1, 5 cm. Between the sowing furrows, about 15-20 cm aisles are left. When real leaves are formed, the seedlings are thinned so that a distance of 15-20 cm is also maintained between them. Care during the warm season is in loosening, watering. On poor soil, it is advisable to carry out top dressing.

Vegetable fennel care, among other things, should also include hilling from the moment the stem becomes noticeably thicker. If this is not done, it will lose its delicate taste, it will be less juicy. Harvesting begins when this part of the plant reaches the size of an apple. In the summer, the cut is done at the root. In the autumn months, fennel from the garden is collected with a clod of earth and transferred to greenhouses.
