It is impossible to fit in one article a description of all cultivated plants that bloom in June. Therefore, we will dwell on only a few, relatively unpretentious creatures of nature, without which a front garden rarely does - the face of a country or city house.
Multicolored lupine
Fast-growing and unpretentious, Lupine spread out his carved leaves, imitating the fluffy skirts of young ladies at a secular ball. Ornamental greenery is crowned with an inflorescence-candle of many moth flowers, densely stuck to the stem of the peduncle.
The abundance of colors transforms the front garden into a bright natural carpet that requires almost no maintenance. Only wilted inflorescences require removal, so as not to disturb the overall beauty and give the opportunity to be born new flowers.
Lupine is not at all picky about soils, on the contrary, it helps to improve its fertile qualities, giving shelter to bacteria that can extract nitrogen from the air on its roots. Thus, Lupine is an excellent predecessor of plants that love nitrogen-rich soils.
One-sided foxglove purpurea
The racemose inflorescences of Digitalis purple are as if drawn on a plane, and therefore all of its flowers look directly at the admiring plant. Therefore, it is free to grow up against the background of shrubs that mask its flowerless rear.
Unlike Lupin's unpretentiousness to the composition of the soil, Digitalis is a more capricious lady, who loves fertile, loose soil, in which constant moisture is maintained without stagnant water.
The plant is tall and wide, and therefore the bushes are seated at a distance from each other in order to allow the Digitalis to show the decorativeness of its flowering.
When caring for Digitalis, one should not forget that beauty is often accompanied by the toxicity of the plant.
Daylily and lily
It would seem that these plants, with such related names, should have a lot in common. But their similarity, perhaps, begins and ends with a funnel-shaped flower with stamens sticking out in the center and a long flowering period.
Otherwise, we find solid differences:
* Let's start with the underground part of the plants. The unpretentious Daylily is stubbornly expanding its territories due to the growing tenacious rhizome, which is tenaciously holding onto the soil by the roots. In Lily, the roots extend from the stem, which has turned into a bulb in its lower part. Although Lilies can grow in one place for up to 5 years, nevertheless bulbous plants require much more attention from the grower.
* What do we see when looking at the leaves? The leaves of the plants are completely different. In Daylily, these are xiphoid narrow long guards of light green color, gracefully leaning towards the surface of the earth. Lily's dark green leaves, although they have a linear shape, are significantly inferior in length, gently hugging the stem of the plant.
* Funnel-shaped flowers of the Daylily are more modest in size, because they show their beauty for only one day. The duration of flowering is supported by numbers, when more and more new ones appear in the world to replace a wilted flower. Daylily cannot boast of a variety of colors.
But the world of Lilies is rich in colors. Large flowers can additionally decorate themselves with dots, strokes, spots of a contrasting color to the main background. The life of flowers is longer, and therefore they are grown for cutting, giving bouquets to their loved ones.
* Caring for plants, having common points, is simpler when it comes to an unpretentious Daylily, and more painstaking when it comes to rather capricious Lilies, who love fertile loose soil with good drainage and places open to the sun.
