Curly sorrel (lat. Rumex crispus) - perennial herb; healing representative of the Sorrel genus. Belongs to the Buckwheat family. Typical places in nature are fields, meadows, roadsides, river banks and streams. Belongs to the category of weeds. It is not grown on personal household plots. Used only in traditional medicine. It has a unique composition and a lot of useful properties.

Characteristics of culture

Curly sorrel is represented by perennials, which are characterized by an elongated tap root of brown color. Stems are erect, furrowed, absolutely smooth and glabrous, green with a red tint. The stems do not exceed 1.2 m in height. The smallest specimens are no more than half a meter. The foliage is lanceolate, pointed at the ends, curly along the edge (as the name says), reaches 20 cm in length. The lower foliage differs from the upper one. It is heart-shaped, blunt at the ends.

The flowers are small, inconspicuous, green or red, collected in paniculate inflorescences, but not lush, on the contrary, narrow, compact. Curly sorrel blooms in early summer, usually in the first or second decade of June. In cold regions, flowering is postponed to mid-July. The fruits are represented by triangular nuts, which, in turn, are located in the perianth lobes.

Chemical composition

As already mentioned, curly sorrel is endowed with a unique composition. It contains a large amount of tannins, chrysophanic and brassidic acids, vitamins K and C (ascorbic acid), anthraquinones, chrysophanols, emodins, higher fatty acids (in particular stearic, palmitic and erucic). The roots of curled sorrel contain a lot of phenol carboxylic acids, flavonoids (especially quercitin, which is known to be effective in combating premature aging of the body), etc.

Application in the medical field

Due to the presence of useful substances in the composition of the mass, curly sorrel has won an honorable place among herbs that can instantly deal with various ailments and diseases. The main thing is to strictly observe the dosage and adhere to the doctor's recommendations, otherwise you can inadvertently harm yourself. By the way, the plant is widely used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. It is used as a laxative, astringent, antibacterial and diuretic.

Also horse sorrel has shown its advantage in the fight against malfunctions of the gastrointestinal tract. The infusion and decoction from it is effective against colitis, enterocolitis, gastritis, bloating and constipation. Horse sorrel is useful for impaired bile secretion, inflammation of the gallbladder, chronic cholecystitis, and diseases of the spleen. The herb in question is indispensable for weak immunity, high fever, colds, flu and fever.

It has also been proven that a decoction of horse sorrel is very effective in combating diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract. It is advised to use it for severe exhausting cough, bronchial asthma, bronchitis, sore throat and even tuberculosis. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of horse sorrel tinctures against hemorrhoids, rheumatism, cardiovascular diseases, urethritis, cystitis and anemia.
