Male orchis is a dandy plant, because even the surface of a thin, but strong, stem in the lower part is usually decorated with purple specks.
Broad-lanceolate vaginal leaves gently cover the stem with their narrowed bases and end with a sharp or blunt tip. The length of the leaves varies from seven to fourteen centimeters with the width of the leaf plate from fifteen to thirty-five millimeters. Leaves that adorn the green surface of the leaf plate with violet or dark purple spots, similar to the footprints of wood elves, are also distinguished by their smartness.
The most picturesque part of the male Orchis is the spike-shaped inflorescence formed by miniature orchid flowers, tightly pressed against each other, which turns the inflorescence into a compact and dense picturesque creation of nature from six to twenty centimeters long. The six petals are pale violet or magenta. Only a short-three-bladed lip flaunts a whitish base, on which wood elves invisible to people have left their purple traces. The lip is equipped with a lilac, ascending or horizontal spur with a clavate end.
Range in the wild
Unfortunately, the spectacular male Orchis is not often found in the wild today. Its flowering in warmer regions (Ukraine) falls on April-May, and to the north (Voronezh, Bryansk, Lipetsk, Kursk regions) - in the first months of summer.
The male Orchis grows in northwest Africa, in most European countries, in the Middle East and even on one of the Canary Islands. But a wide area does not guarantee the safety of a plant, and therefore it needs human protection.
Use and healing abilities
The male orchis is a very showy plant. Its green leaves with dark mysterious traces, bright purple or light purple inflorescences of bizarre orchid flowers are beautiful. Its winter hardiness allows fans of the original creation of nature, orchids, to enjoy in their own flower garden, and not only as a houseplant.
The nectar of flowers attracts hardworking bees who produce honey for their own nutrition and partly share the fruits of their labor with humans.
The mucus contained in the tubers of the plant is used by humans as a healing agent that has wound healing, tonic, anti-inflammatory, enveloping effects. The aerial part of the plant also has antibacterial properties.
Drugs from male Orchis tubers can help with poisoning, with diseases of the respiratory and digestive systems, with impotence and nervous breakdowns, slow down the process of tumor development.
