Perhaps, everyone on the site has a plot with strawberries. And periodically it must be transplanted. Or maybe you are just planning to create an area with this fragrant berry and do not know when it is best to plant it?

In fact, strawberries are extremely unpretentious in terms of choosing the time of year for transplanting and planting. It is perfectly accepted for spring, summer, and autumn planting and transplanting. You just need to know some of the intricacies of transplanting at certain times of the year.

First, let's talk about why a strawberry transplant is generally needed, why not just plant it in one place, water it, care for it, feed it - and that's it, don't bother with all sorts of transplants. The peculiarity of this fragrant, sweet berry is that after a certain period its bushes cease to bear fruit without transplanting, so once every few years it is necessary to change the "place of residence" of strawberries.

Choosing a place for planting strawberries

Choose a sunny, warm area with no stagnant water. The soil can be any, but before planting strawberries, it would be good to fertilize it with peat, compost or humus. The best precursors for sweet berries are greens, legumes, carrots and beets, and radishes. But after cucumbers, cabbage, potatoes and tomatoes, you should not plant strawberries.

Features of spring planting and transplanting

The most optimal time for a spring transplant is April, it is already warm, the soil is pretty well warmed up, but the bushes have not yet begun to bloom. Transplanting and planting must be completed before flowering! By the way, the transplanted plants will bloom in the same year, but, despite this, you should not expect a harvest from them, there will be no harvest.

So, we prepare the garden bed and select the bushes: we do not take old, sick, lagging plants, we immediately send them to discard, old ones can be put into a compost heap, sick ones we must destroy. Now we make holes, they should be quite deep and wide. We pour sand at the bottom, water it, place a plant in the hole, not deeply deepening it, fill it with soil, compact it. A couple of weeks after planting, you can feed the plants.

Features of summer landing and transfer

Summer planting is suitable if you want to enlarge the garden or plant too thick strawberry planting. Although, summer is also suitable for planting a variety you just liked and "turned up" in the store.

The best time for summer work of this kind is July and August. The garden bed needs to be prepared in advance, we just have the whole June in stock for this. We carefully dig up the soil, add peat, manure or compost, dig it up again. And we leave to rest until the time when we start landing on it. In July, we buy or select plants from the existing garden for planting. They must be healthy, strong, well developed. We do not take old plants. We prepare the holes and plant the bushes in them. After planting, until the plants are "accepted", they will need to be shaded.

Features of autumn planting and transplanting

Autumn is undoubtedly the best time for such work. First, the bushes take root better. Secondly, young shoots have time to take root and grow, and are completely ready for planting. Thirdly, the first harvest from the planted plants will be obtained as early as next summer.

We prepare the garden in the same way as in the previous paragraphs. We select strong plants for planting, age - about two years, with a well-developed root system, root length at least five centimeters, on the bush there should be at least four leaves. Plants are necessarily healthy, without pests and various infections. We make holes, plant plants. Immediately after landing on the garden bed, pour warm water and mulch.

By the way, before planting, the roots of plants can be disinfected by immersing them in hot water (about fifty degrees) for 10-15 minutes, then moving them into a container with cold water for the same time.
