It is very upsetting when, after picking a strong plant or transplanting good seedlings into greenhouses, previously healthy pets begin to look bad. What is the reason for yellowed or withering leaves and how to deal with this unexpected misfortune?
Why do the leaves of seedlings turn yellow
When transplanting seedlings into large containers, the need for soil increases significantly. And it is not always possible to control the quality of the substrate, especially if the work is carried out in an urban environment. Each manufacturer of prepackaged soil differs in the composition of the product, and you also need to get used to the care of seedlings in it.
What does the yellowing of the leaves in fresh soil indicate? If the matter is not in the lighting of the seedlings, which also directly affects the color and turgor of the leaf plate, then most likely the cause of the trouble is the lack of nitrogen, iron or manganese. Correcting this problem is very simple by using the appropriate dressings.
Gardeners should be protected from the desire to increase the dosage of fertilizer. To make up for the deficiency immediately with a shock dose is the wrong tactic. Such a move will only aggravate the condition of the plant. You need to be patient, since the leaves will not restore a healthy color immediately.
Another feature of applying dressings is to apply them on wet ground. If fertilized on dry soil, then the small roots can get burned.
What to do with a wilting plant?
Too bright lighting of seedlings causes both yellowing of the leaves and wilting of the plant. Sometimes novice gardeners make the following mistake: noticing wilting, they begin to intensively water the seedlings, thereby creating favorable conditions for the reproduction of a fungal disease in warmth and high humidity. And it is enough just to rearrange the seedlings in a shady place.
It also happens that when transplanting, the seedlings get into the already infected soil. The result of such a "surprise" is bacterial wilting, mushroom, fusarium wilting. Root rot spreads very quickly through the vascular system of the entire plant, and now, along with the drooping leaves, the crown of your pet bends.
It is very easy to diagnose seedlings. An unhealthy brown ring will be clearly visible on the cut of the stem. Thus, a metabolic disorder occurs, and nutrients with watering, dressing do not come in the required amount. In order to prevent such a nuisance, any soil, even purchased in sealed prepackaged bags, must be disinfected in order to exclude even the ghostly possibility of infection through the soil.
When the trouble happened, and the symptoms of the disease are obvious, and rearrangement in a shady place does not help, it is necessary to urgently take measures to save the seedlings. For this, biological and chemical fungicides are used. These can be tablets or sticks, which are dropped into the soil of the pot to a depth of 1-2 cm. Fungicides are also produced in the form of a powder or concentrate in ampoules for preparing a solution. As a rule, seedlings are not watered with such cocktails immediately, but they are allowed to brew for several hours.
Means in tablets can be used as a prophylaxis and lay them at the transplant immediately. This will strengthen the weakened plant, prevent the disease from penetrating through microdamages on the thin roots. However, it is worth considering the composition of the drug. In this case, it is better to dwell on biological fungicides so that they do not disrupt the process of the natural development of the plant, because often such preparations also contain nutrients. To avoid such errors, you need to carefully study the instructions and recommendations on the packages. It is better to refrain from using fungicides of an unclear composition.
