Lakfiol (lat. Erysimum) - decorative flower culture. Belongs to the Cruciferous family. Other names are jaundice, yellowfiol. The second name is due to the bright sunny and golden petals of the flowers. In appearance, lacfiol resembles levkoi. In nature, lacfiol is found in warm European countries, in particular Greece, Italy and Spain. Also, golden heads can be captured on the shores of the islands located in the Aegean Sea.

Characteristics of culture

Lakfiol is represented by annual and perennial herbaceous plants and dwarf shrubs, which are endowed with solid long foliage and medium / large flowers. Flowers, depending on the species and variety, can be yellow, gold, orange, purple and brown. Terry and simple varieties are also on sale. Fruits are pods, compressed, rectangular in shape.

The most common species is Lakfiol Cheri (lat. Erysimum x cheiri). It is also called Cheiranus Cheri. The homeland of the plant is the Mediterranean countries. In nature, only wild plants are found, they have successfully settled in the Caucasian countries, and they can also be captured on the Crimean peninsula. Lakfiol Chery is characterized by strongly branched stems, topped with lanceolate finely toothed foliage with a sharp tip. The petioles are short. The upper foliage differs not only in size, but also in the absence of a petiole.

The flowers of Lakfiol Chery are large enough, golden or yellow, often with an orange or brown tint. The aroma is pleasant, sweet, refreshing. Flowers are collected in lush clusters located at the top of the plant. Sepals are lanceolate or linear, four in number, always covered with short and soft hairs. The fruits are represented by tetrahedral pods, which reach a length of 4-8 cm.

The flowering of Lacfiol Chery, subject to all growing conditions, including a favorable climate and constant watering, is active, lush. Usually flowering occurs in the first or second decade of July, the seeds ripen not earlier than the first decade of August. Flowering usually lasts until the first frost, in the Urals, flowering can last from July to the end of September, in the Crimea and Krasnodar Territory from June to October-November.

Interesting varieties

Among the varieties, Goldkonig (Golgkonig) fell in love with gardeners and florists. This is an early variety. It boasts an abundant bloom. The flowers are fragrant, golden. The plants do not exceed half a meter in height. In terms of external characteristics, the Goldkonig variety is very similar to Goldkleid. It also forms golden branches, but the bushes themselves grow up to 70-80 cm in the process of growth. In addition to individual varieties, you can find mixtures on sale that include a variety of shades. For example, the Tom Thumb blend combines golden, yellow, carmine, red and brown flowers.

The subtleties of growing

Lakfiol belongs to the category of warm and sun-loving plants. It is recommended to plant it in areas open to the sun, in extreme cases - areas with diffused (openwork light). Lowlands for growing the crop in question are not suitable, since they accumulate cold air in the morning and a lot of water after rain. Plants do not like dampness, they immediately begin to rot. The soils should be moderately moist, light, neutral, loose, rich in organic matter.
