Lakonos sometimes also known as phytolacci, this plant is a perennial crop. This plant is especially valuable not only for its amazing decorative qualities, but also for its unique medicinal properties.

It is noteworthy that this plant is a wonderful honey plant. The height of the lakonos can reach about one and a half meters. It should be noted that with proper care, this plant can form very lush bushes, endowed with many inflorescences. It should be noted that the lakonos is particularly attractive not only during its flowering, but also during the period when the fruits of this plant are formed.

Care and cultivation of lakonos

For optimal growth of this plant, both sunny and slightly shaded areas are suitable. It should be noted that this plant is not particularly demanding on the soil, however, it is preferable to pick up a moist and well-drained soil. The plant should be watered fairly abundantly as the substrate dries out. As for dressings, it is recommended to make them about once a month. However, this plant can thrive without any additional fertilizing. Organic fertilizers are recommended to be applied at planting, as well as in autumn and spring. Use compost or humus as organic fertilizers.

In the autumn period, the entire aerial part of this plant should be cut off. Gardeners recommend covering the plantings of this plant for the winter period with the help of spruce branches or fallen leaves. It is also permissible to mulch the soil with peat. This is done in case the winter turns out to be snowless and especially cold. Nevertheless, this plant will be able to endure winters even without shelter, but one should be on the safe side, because the rhizomes of the plant can sometimes freeze out.

It is noteworthy that in some countries this plant is grown as a vegetable crop. In this case, the lakonos has been widely used in the preparation of various dishes. However, you can eat not all types of plants, but only the so-called berry lakonos or edible ones. All other varieties of this plant are poisonous: in this case, if this plant is eaten, various extremely unpleasant consequences can occur. These consequences include, for example, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, and sometimes poisoning can be fatal. For this reason, this plant is not recommended to grow if you have small children.

Reproduction of lakonos

Reproduction of this plant can take place both by means of seeds and by means of rhizomes. If you choose reproduction using seeds, then you need to sow them in the spring for seedlings or in the fall directly into the open ground. Before sowing seeds for seedlings, they should be soaked in fairly warm water for about one day. After that, the seeds should be wrapped in a damp cloth, and then left in this position for about three more days. After that, the seeds can already be planted in the substrate, which should be loose. When about three to four leaves appear, the seedlings should be dived into separate containers. In the month of May, seedlings can be planted in open ground. Before planting, organic fertilizers should be added to the soil mixture. In the autumn, after planting the seeds, they should be mulched, and in the spring, new plants are transplanted to permanent places. In this case, the distance between individual plants should be approximately eighty to one hundred centimeters.
