Those who are dismissive of greenery need to urgently change their position. Very little of such a product is needed to bring tremendous benefits to the body. And you can grow green crops not only in the summer, but also in the cold season, when vitamins and minerals are, oh, how much a person needs
Mustard mustard for salads and dressings
To quickly get greens for a salad, it is recommended to take a closer look at mustard greens. This is not only early maturing, but also a fairly cold-resistant plant. A rich harvest of greens can be obtained within two weeks after sowing. It is advised to use young leaves for cooking - they contain the maximum amount of vitamins. The product can be prepared: salted, dried and dried, but still this green culture is most useful when fresh. Therefore, use it for salads, chop it for dressing first courses before serving. It goes very well stewed with fish and meat dishes.
Mustard leaves are grown not only in the open field, but also under cover, in greenhouses, greenhouses, in containers on windowsills. In the beds, it is sown several times over the summer. In spring it can be used as a sealant. On the vacated beds after the early harvest, they are placed using the belt method. You just need to remember that the plant belongs to the cruciferous family, and it is better not to place it after relatives (radishes, cabbage and others).
Seeds are sown thickly, with such a trick, these greens are more delicate in taste. The embedment depth is shallow. You can cover the crops with humus - with a layer of no more than 0.5 cm. The rows are placed in 2-3 lines with a distance of about 25 cm between them. The row spacing is made about 60 cm.
Care consists in watering. If the greens do not grow well, nitrogen fertilization will help to fix this. They start harvesting when the greens become about 5-6 cm in height. You need to use it for food immediately, fresh mustard greens quickly lose their appearance.
For indoor cultivation, mustard leaves are embedded in containers filled with light soil. Watering should be done with warm water. Keep crops under cover until shoots appear. For this purpose, use a film or just a sheet of paper.
Field salad all year round
Another valuable green crop is field salad. It is not only a valuable vitamin product, but also a medicinal plant. It is used for kidney disease. And in food they are used as a regular salad in combination with other herbs, vegetable oil and lemon juice.
In open ground, field lettuce can continue to be sown until the 20th of September. For this, a sunny corner of the garden is set aside. It is not recommended to use freshly harvested seeds. If you do not carry out such a procedure for them as ripening, they will give pampered shoots.
Sowing is carried out in rows. The planting depth is slightly greater than that of mustard leaf - about 1.5 cm. Between rows, a distance of 15-20 cm is maintained. Field lettuce also needs more space. Therefore, 2 weeks after sowing, thinning is carried out so that a distance of approximately 12-15 cm is maintained between the plants.
To extend the period for obtaining greens, before the onset of cold weather, you need to have time to cover the beds with foil. When sowing under winter, to obtain fresh greenery in early spring, cover should also be provided for the beds. To do this, additionally use humus, you can use vegetable tops or straw. And with the arrival of spring, remove such a veil in time. In addition, do not forget to loosen the soil in the beds.
To provide your diet with fresh herbs during the cold season, field salad can also be grown in the winter. For this, such structures as greenhouses are useful. Before the arrival of cold weather, such crops must be hidden under the frames.
