A cucumber is picky about moisture, therefore, when grown in greenhouses, many people have a question about when, how and in what volumes to water it. Consider in detail this important agrotechnical point
We monitor soil moisture in the greenhouse
Excess and lack of moisture are harmful, so maintaining a moderate soil moisture is an important cultivation chip. Excess water leads to many problems: rot, deformation of fruits, dying off of shoots.
If you do not maintain a systematic and reasonable dosage, then contrasting fluctuations in moisture in the soil oppress the root system. The plant dries up, changes the quality of the leaf, drops the ovaries. You can't water when you want to. First, make sure if your cucumbers need it - pay attention to the condition of the ground, leaf.
Rules for watering cucumbers in a greenhouse
Regardless of the dose, the water should always be warm. If you want to get a harvest, heat it in any way, including adding boiling water from a kettle to the watering can. This is the road to high fees.
Small seedlings are rarely watered until flowering: after 2-3 days. In the phase of active flowering - every other day. After the appearance of the ovaries and the entire fruiting period, daily watering is required. Cool and rainy weather makes adjustments - as needed, in a day or two, or maybe less often.
Water consumption per square meter, in the average version 5-10 liters. In the spring, before flowering and in the first stage of the ovaries, much less moisture is required. The bushes are still small and "don't drink" a lot, and evaporation at moderate temperatures is not high, so give 2-3 liters, as you grow, 4-5. At the beginning of fruiting - 5-7, during the period of active collection 7-10. All data are averaged and corrected for the weather, planting density.
Cucumbers are not watered during the day, especially when the greenhouse is glazed, as drops of water on the foliage focus the sun and lead to burns. You can postpone the procedure to early morning or evening. During the day, the cucumber rests, and at night it grows, so it is better to "water" your pets in the evening. If you water over the leaves, then do it not before closing the greenhouse, but at 7-8 hours so that the leaves have time to dry out. Subsoil watering is an exception.
Experts say that the best way is sprinkling. You can use watering cans, sprinklers, hoses with fine nozzles, greenhouse sprinklers. A greenhouse entirely owned by cucumbers is recommended to be kept in a high humidity mode. It is useful to irrigate the walls and passages, it is a comfort for the cucumber culture. Strong humidity provokes the appearance of diseases (anthracosis, brown spot, etc.). If symptoms of such phenomena appear, sprinkling stops.
There is also one more trick for increasing yields. Adjustment of the graph is done when the first buds appear. The frequency of watering is reduced: we give "drink" to a minimum and only to maintain the normal state of the bush. This stimulates the formation of abundant female flowers. After their appearance, we resume the usual water regime.
Organization of watering cucumbers
A rich harvest will be with a stable, dosed watering. Always focusing on the condition of the earth and leaves. Experts say that the cucumber "drinks" with the leaves, so they usually do not watered at the root, moreover, this can lead to their exposure, since they are laid almost on the surface. Watering is carried out by sprinkling.
Another trick: try to run the event so that the ground around the stem stays dry. This will prevent root decay. In extreme heat, spray the walls of the greenhouse - this will lower the temperature and make the air humid.
On cloudy days, the irrigation regime changes, the orientation goes to the state of the soil. "Useful" will be water within + 20 … + 25. If you visit the dacha only on weekends, it is advisable to have an automated drip irrigation system and self-opening vents.
Airing and watering mode
The enclosed greenhouse space is the ideal place to retain moisture and create a tropical microclimate. Do not forget that with stagnant air, a message appears for the development of infections. Airing helps to avoid this.
Unlike tomatoes, cucumbers do not like drafts, so you need to ventilate carefully. It is advisable to do this using the upper transoms / vents. In their absence, one-sided ventilation is done using a door. Try to ventilate at a dose so as not to dry out the air.
