In order for carrots to please with excellent and tasty harvests, it will not be enough just to plant and water them from time to time. One of the secrets of success is feeding correctly and in a timely manner! When should they be introduced, what exactly should be offered to the plants, and is it possible to do without chemistry, with only "folk" dressings?
How much dressing do you need and how to feed it?
As a rule, four dressings per season are enough for carrots, but these dressings must be applied at different times. At the same time, it is important not to forget that most of all carrots need phosphorus - it is this element that helps to make them sweet!
The first feeding is usually given to carrots, when the first leaves begin to appear on the beds. Especially well during this period, this culture perceives feeding with potassium magnesia or urea.
After about a couple of weeks, you can pamper the carrots with a second top dressing, only this time it is better to offer it regular wood ash.
And for the third feeding, which is carried out in the midst of summer, ash is also perfect. You can also use an ash solution - it will also help make the roots sweeter.
And the fourth top dressing, as a rule, is designed to reduce the nitrate content. This dressing is carried out approximately one month before the start of the harvest. And here, again, ash will always come to the rescue! And if you want to diversify the "menu" a little, you can also use potassium.
Folk remedies for feeding carrots
If you do not want to resort to industrial fertilizers at all, it is quite possible to do with improvised folk remedies - carrots respond to such feeding no worse. Wood ash, iodine, yeast and bird droppings are especially suitable for fertilizing.
To obtain top dressing based on wood ash, one hundred grams of ash is poured with ten liters of water and this mixture is infused for about twelve hours, after which they are sent to water the carrots with it, watering strictly to the root. Top dressing from wood ash helps not only to significantly improve the taste of root crops, but also to a large extent contributes to the growth of green mass, and also does not leave the gluttonous pests the slightest chance!
Iodine is an excellent helper for improving the juiciness and taste of carrots, in addition, it is able to protect the growing culture from a number of dangerous ailments or pests. And the recipe for such a top dressing is extremely simple: in ten liters of water, you will need to dilute twenty drops of iodine. The aisles are poured with a ready-made solution.
Yeast helps to improve the quality of carrots - to prepare a yeast top dressing, a pound of fresh yeast is poured with water in an amount of 2.5 liters. Everything is thoroughly mixed, after which another teaspoon of sugar and one hundred grams of ash are added to the resulting solution. Such a composition is infused for two hours, after which it is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10 and used for root dressing.
And bird droppings will definitely help speed up the development of carrots, because it contains a huge amount of substances useful for its growth - potassium, phosphorus and zinc. The droppings are diluted with water at a ratio of 1:10, and after it is thoroughly dissolved in water, the soil between the carrot rows is watered with the resulting solution.
You can also prepare a complex top dressing that combines several substances useful for the full development of carrots at once - in this case, the root crops will receive almost all the elements they need at one time. To prepare such a top dressing, a previously prepared bucket is filled with two-thirds of nettle. Next, the bucket is filled with water, also by two-thirds, but already from the total volume of the grass, after which a couple of glasses of ash are added to the resulting composition, as well as a pack of fresh yeast. Then the bucket is covered and its contents are infused for a couple of days. And immediately before use, this dressing must be diluted with water at the rate of one glass of the finished product for each bucket of water.
