Despite the adjective "graceful" in its name, it is a powerful and tall plant with sprawling strong shoots that can easily withstand strong winds, although it is recommended to plant zinnias in places protected from the wind. Powerful shoots give birth to large inflorescences (more than 15 cm in diameter) of various colors.

Zinnia angustifolia - inferior to graceful zinnia in all respects: it is younger (150 years old), shorter (up to 45 cm high), its inflorescences are smaller and their palette is most often limited to yellow.
Varieties
Zinnia is divided not only by species, but also by varieties. Varieties differ from each other in plant height (creeping, dwarf, medium-sized, tall); according to the structure and shape of inflorescences (dahlia, gailardia, cactus, pompon, scabioza, chrysanthemum).
Dahlia zinnias
The hemispherical inflorescences of these zinnias, reaching 15 centimeters in diameter, resemble a dahlia flower.
Among them there are tall bushes, for example, a variety called "Benary's Giants Series". Its inflorescences of various shades, from white to lilac, adorn bushes up to 120 centimeters high.
Medium-sized dahlia zinnias, depending on the color of the wrapping petals, are divided into varieties:

Chrysanthemum zinnias
Representatives of this species are "New Burpee's Hybrids" and "Fantasia". Their large (up to 15 centimeters in diameter) inflorescences of various shades, like sunflowers, cling to a bush up to 70 centimeters high.
Growing and caring
Zinnia is propagated by seeds that remain viable for more than 3 years, sowing them on seedlings in early April. They are planted in open ground when late spring frosts are no longer threatened, since zinnia is very thermophilic and does not tolerate negative temperatures at all.
Zinnia is not demanding on soils. Drought tolerant. But for long and abundant flowering, soil looseness, fertility, and neutral acidity are desirable.
Prefers places that are warm, sunny, sheltered from the wind.
Zinnia looks good with cosmos, asters, dahlias, chrysanthemums.
