Large platycodon bells will become a bright accent on the flower bed. Unpretentiousness makes it an attractive flower for beginners and experienced gardeners. Where to get planting material? How to propagate your favorite plants?
Reproduction
Platicodon reproduces in several ways:
• vegetative;
• seed.
The first method preserves hereditary traits and is used on valuable and terry varieties. The seed option allows you to get a larger amount of planting material in a short time.
Seed method
Seeds are sown for seedlings in late February - early March at home. A loose mixture is prepared from sand, peat, garden soil, taken in equal proportions. Prepared soil is poured into a wide container. Spill with potassium permanganate solution. Seeds are evenly distributed over the surface. Sprinkle lightly with peat. Cover with foil, put in a warm place.
After 1-1, 5 weeks, the first seedlings appear. Gradually remove the shelter. Move the box to a sunny place. On cloudy days, the evening hours are illuminated with fluorescent lamps, preventing the stretching of tender shoots.
Once a week, watered with a weak solution of potassium permanganate to prevent black leg. Twice a month they are fed with a complex fertilizer for flowers.
In the phase of 3-4 leaves, the young dive into separate cups with drainage holes at the bottom. They dig seedlings into the box, trying to disturb the roots less. The pots are covered with loose soil. Holes are made in the middle with a stick. The spine is directed strictly vertically, the ground is pressed from the side. Spill with water.
The first time they keep the cups in the shade. A week later, they return to the window. Care is the same as at the beginning of development. By the time of planting in open ground, the seedlings have a well-developed root, a strong stem. Seedlings bloom for 2-3 years.
Vegetative way
On plants of 3-4 years of age, in early spring, hatching buds with a piece of root are cut out with a sharp knife. Sprinkle open wounds with crushed coal. Dry the wounds slightly.
They are planted on a prepared bed, setting the distance between plants to 10 cm, deepening the fleshy part into the ground. Spill with a solution of potassium permanganate. Cover through the arcs with a film, creating a favorable rooting environment.
A month later, the seedlings start to grow. Moisten the soil as needed. Once a month, they feed a tablespoon per bucket of liquid with a complex fertilizer "Zdraven". For the winter they leave on the seedling bed, covering with a dry leaf. In the spring, they are transplanted to a permanent place.
Landing
In the spring, a glass of ash, a nitroammophoska matchbox, a bucket of humus per square meter are scattered over the surface. They dig shovels onto the bayonet, picking out malicious weeds.
Wells are marked every 30 cm. Spill over with water. With a large clod of earth, ready-made seedlings are transplanted, spreading the roots. Sprinkle with loose soil, compacting the earth around the plants. The substrate level should cover the entire underground part.
At first, they are shaded with boxes for better survival of seedlings.
Care
Care consists of the following activities:
1. Rare watering during dry periods.
2. Top dressing once a month with complex fertilizers.
3. Garter for tall varieties of pegs.
4. Removal of plant residues in the spring.
5. Loosening the topsoil around the flowers.
6. Mulching the soil under the seedlings with peat, humus.
With proper agricultural technology, platycodon is rarely affected by diseases and pests.
Having learned how to grow beautiful bells, you can start laying out flower beds, creating compositions, decorating the local area.
