What do gardeners often forget?

There are so many different wisdom in the gardening business that sometimes even experienced gardeners get confused and forget about important agrotechnical measures. Here are some common garden maintenance mistakes

Gardeners, even those with vast experience, also often make mistakes in agrotechnical measures, which then do not have the best effect on the quality of the crop. The main and common mistake is haste. As soon as warm days come, many gardeners rush to plant cultivated plants earlier than expected, without thinking about frosts. Let's list a few garden-town miscalculations that it is advisable to avoid:

1. Wrong landing dates

* In the southern regions - plants with an open root system are planted in the autumn-winter period: in November-February, with a closed root system and kept in containers - at any time of the year.

* In the northern regions, planting is carried out in spring before the growing season. And it is better to prefer seedlings with a closed root system.

2. Ignoring the consequences of construction

If construction was carried out on the site, after which there was a lot of construction waste, it is advisable to completely replace the top soil. To do this, they dig holes a meter deep and fill them with humus-turf soil.

3. Incorrect preparation of the planting pit

Pits for planting are prepared in advance, a couple of weeks before planting. For spring planting, the pits are prepared in the fall, and for the fall - a month before planting the plants. For trees and shrubs, the size of the pit is usually 70X70cm, depending on the size of the seedlings, and for plants with clods, the depth of the pit is usually about 30cm.

4. Introduction of fresh manure as fertilizer

When fresh manure is introduced into the planting pit, there is a risk that it will burn the plant roots. The use of rotted manure is recommended. Using only slightly rotted manure is also not very useful. With it, the survival rate of plants decreases.

5. Mixing soil layers

It is undesirable to mix the upper fertile soil layer with the lower one, which is less fertile, since the roots of plants need more fertile soil. Humus or compost mixed with soil should be placed in the pits. When planting, you should not immediately introduce mineral fertilizer.

6. Inattention to the inspection of plant roots

Before planting plants, it is necessary to inspect their root system, cut off dried tips, remove damaged roots. When planting plants, you need to spread the roots.

7. Lack of drainage system

Heavy, clayey, too moist soils must be drained, using sand, stones or broken brick as drainage.

8. Failure to trim plants

Plants should be planted only after removing weak and broken shoots. Each type of culture has its own rules, but planting plants with weak, undeveloped shoots will not lead to anything good.

9. Inattention to the location of the root collar of plants

The root collar (the area of transition of the stem to the root) of plants when planting should be under or above the soil. When replanting grafted plants, you need to take into account the location of the root collar - it must be placed not below and not above the soil level. Cuttings in which the root collar is not visible can be slightly deepened (3-5 cm). They do the same with some perennial flowers (clematis, astilba, geranium). Their neck can be buried 10 cm.

10. Lack of watering the soil before planting

A fertilized planting pit is watered before the plants are planted.

11. Failure to use the "clay talker"

Clay talker is used to increase the survival rate of newly planted plants. It is made from the following components:

* Water - 10 l

* Clay - in small quantities

* Heteroauxin - 1 tablet or root - sachet

* Rotted manure - 1 kg.

After processing the roots of the plants, they are dried for half an hour, after which the plants can be planted, after filling the planting pits with fertilizers.

12. Failure to use supports and garters

Support stakes must be used to tie the seedlings. If you forget about them, the seedlings will quickly lose their strength and break.

13. Absence of a root ball of the earth

It is necessary to plant plants with a root ball of earth, and not thoroughly clean the roots from the soil. This will allow them to better settle down in a new place.

14. Violation of recommendations for watering plants after planting and mulching

Do not forget that plants are watered and mulched when planting: the soil is compacted, watered and mulched with sawdust, crushed bark or peat to reduce moisture evaporation and prevent weeds.

15. Failure to use plant shelters after planting

To shelter young plants, spruce branches are most often used, which will protect them from night frosts.

Finally, a few more tips from experienced gardeners:

* When feeding plants with mineral fertilizers, make sure that they do not fall on the foliage - burns will appear.

* Using liquid fertilizer on dry soil may cause root burns.

* Do not dig up the remains of plants that are affected by diseases if they have been infected with pathogens.

* It is recommended to plant seedlings only in freshly prepared potting mixes.

* When buying seedlings, you need to check them for pests.
