To obtain a rich harvest, it is not enough just to take care of your favorite plants. Destroying everything in their path, pests can leave us without a long-awaited harvest. What measures should be taken in the fight against pests?
Gopher
The gopher is a serious pest of cereals. They live in steppes, forest-steppe and meadow-steppe. An adult bears great resemblance to a squirrel. Gophers always feed near their burrows. The food of these "cute" rodents consists of aboveground and underground parts of plants, some species of ground squirrels are used for food and insects. These animals usually live in colonies.
It is necessary to start fighting uninvited guests in early spring. When the grass has not yet grown, then the paths of the ground squirrels along which they carry food to their burrows are very clearly visible.
Deaf
The mole rat representing rodents is adapted exclusively to the underground lifestyle. Its characteristic external features are a large head, an unexpressed neck, underdeveloped limbs, a body covered with short gray fur. Unlike the eyes and tail hidden under the skin, the protruding front incisors are quite visible. A mole rat can grow up to 30 cm in length and gain a mass equal to 1 kg. The special structure of the muscles and the lower jaw allows him to sharpen his teeth one against the other. Using incisors when digging, the rodent digs rather long (up to 800-900 m), multi-tiered underground passages with branches. The keratinous skin on the nose helps it to tamp the walls in its burrows, and also provides good protection from any mechanical damage.
More often, mole rat is found in semi-deserts and steppes with rich vegetation. The main food is tubers, rhizomes and aerial parts of more than 60 plant species.
The animal is rarely seen, as it leads an extremely secretive life. Due to the characteristic soil emissions, similar to molehills, many people think that a mole has settled in the garden. However, experienced gardeners know: the piles of land thrown out by the mole are located chaotically on the site, but the mole rat builds them almost in a straight line and the distance between them is much greater. Mole rats are easy to exterminate or expel from their site, since they live alone. Having driven out one individual from the garden, you can not worry about planting for some time. For comparison: sometimes up to a dozen moles live in a small area.
Control methods
The most effective remedy for unwanted neighbors is a protective stainless steel mesh, buried around the entire perimeter of the garden to a depth of 50 to 80 cm. But the mesh will save only if you dig it in before the visit of a mole rat or mole. And what to do when the animals have already settled? With the appearance of the first mounds, it is necessary to immediately begin to act, until the pests have settled down. To get started, one of two common scare away methods is suitable: a homemade ratchet that works with gusts of wind will create fear with sounds and vibration, and an electronic ultrasonic repeller - with high-frequency noise. Ultrasonic devices have long proven themselves in the fight against uninvited guests who settled in the beds. The chances of winning will increase if you install several such devices at once.
Chemical preparations do not always give the required result. Often, mole rats and moles ignore the bait with poison, at the same time, pets and even people can easily suffer from it. It is known that poor eyesight in moles is compensated for by the finest scent, so it makes sense to try to expel them using repellents - chemicals with a repulsive odor.
Unfortunately, such a method of struggle as livestock capture is a very difficult task, requiring a lot of patience and a significant investment of time. To catch animals alive, you need to be able to accurately find the main move, move silently and have a live trap or a trapping cylinder in your arsenal.

Blind Shoots On Roses
It happens that an outwardly healthy rose bush does not bloom or gives single buds. Blind shoots are to blame for 70% of this phenomenon. Consider the questions: what blind shoots look like, the reasons for their appearance, what actions to take so that the rose begins to bloom
Blind Area For The Foundation
The durability of the building depends on the availability of a quality blind area. It is a mistake to think that the presence of a concrete strip around the house will save the foundation from moisture - this, unfortunately, is just a path for walking along the house. The article provides information for a zealous owner on creating the right blind area
Blind Enemies Of The Gardener. Part 1
For gardeners, the appearance of land heaps and underground labyrinths on the site is the reason moles are blamed for all their failures, including a decrease in yield. But are they really the only ones to blame? In nature, there are many other small "diggers", whose vital activity leaves traces similar to molehills. Not all digging animals harm the garden, so do not rush to drastic measures. It is better to find out which animal liked the land plot
Wicked Enemies Of Cabbage
Cabbage, radishes, turnips and other close relatives in the family have many common and dangerous enemies that can significantly harm the crop and even destroy crops completely. Fleas, flies, caterpillars, despite their miniature size, have a remarkable appetite and greedily pounce even on seedlings that barely appeared in the beds. Who should be afraid of the cabbage family in the first place?
Wasps In The Garden: Helpers Or Enemies
Everyone knows these striped black and yellow insects that live in gardens, in personal plots, the main place of accumulation of which is containers of water, stinging very painfully all who disturb their peace. Gardeners with varying success are fighting wasps in their plots, reaching the point of using poisonous substances. But is it necessary to destroy wasps?
