The seedlings are safely grown, ready for transplanting into open ground. Now it is necessary to figure out how to decorate the flower beds, draw up planting schemes, find the optimal place for the flower garden
Application
Planting ornamental cabbage is conventionally divided into several directions:
1. Open ground:
• flower beds;
• alpine slides
• curbs along the paths;
• containers;
• vertical structures.
2. Protected ground:
• greenhouses, winter gardens;
• office premises, apartments.
Floristry occupies a special position. Bouquet varieties are grown both in greenhouses in winter and outdoors in summer.
Composing compositions
A pale flower bed will sparkle with bright colors after planting several bushes of ornamental cabbage on it.
When decorating flower beds, planting options are used:
• mixed with annuals or perennials;
• monoculture (different varieties of cabbage).
Mixed landings
The magnificent "queen" in the second tier goes well with conifers. Neat bushes of undersized varieties of pine, spruce, boxwood, juniper are planted in a circle with rosette forms with large, corrugated "frill". The greens of the conifers go well with the bright colors of cabbage.
The ability of a miracle vegetable to relatively easily put up with transplants makes it possible to grow it in spare beds in the first half of summer (it is not immediately that the bushes acquire a "royal" color and habit). Then transfer the plants to the empty areas of the flower garden with a large clod of earth.
Early bulbous flowers at the beginning of summer lose their decorative effect. They are planted with curtains, leaving empty spaces for the autumn "beauty". After the primroses wither, the cabbage leaves grow magnificently, covering the empty bald spots in the mixborder.
Annual flowers that set seeds by the end of summer look sloppy. Dried bushes are removed, replacing them with multi-colored heads of cabbage.
They create complex compositions of plants in several levels. On a cover of small-flowered begonia, creeping periwinkle, sedum, ayuga, subulate phlox, herb carnation, thyme, single specimens are planted with high varieties of ornamental cabbage. It turns out an original carpet with a bright volumetric ornament.
Ground cover plants are perfectly combined with undersized hybrids of the lush "beauty" on the alpine hills.
In recent years, modular flower beds have been gaining popularity, where spaces for flowers are left between the plates. In each "island" one species or a mixture of several varieties is planted. A tall leader surrounded by a lower tier looks organic in such a space.
Monoculture
Compositions consisting of one plant species are called monocultures. Ornamental cabbage varieties with different colors of leaves and textures are perfectly combined with each other. The contrast principle gives bright options: white-green rosettes coexist with raspberry-purple specimens.
The drawing is made up in several ways:
• chess;
• stripes of wavy structure;
• multi-colored circles;
• geometric figures;
• complex ornaments.
At an early age, it is easy to determine what color the plant will be colored in as an adult.
Vertical flower beds
To begin with, a frame is built in several levels in the form of a pyramid. It is covered with a coarse mesh along the entire perimeter of the edges. Fill with fertile soil. Strengthen the edges with straw so that the soil is not washed out during watering. Moisten the mixture abundantly, wait for the substrate to shrink.
The finished seedlings are planted in cells, leaving at least 30-50 cm between the plants, depending on the variety. Think over in advance a planting scheme, a combination of colors.
Composing a composition depends on your imagination and creativity. Do not be afraid to experiment with color, a combination of varieties of different leaves. The more original the drawing is, the more advantageous the flowerbed will look.
