Popularity, like fashion, ladies are capricious and fickle. At the same time, they like to make surprises, periodically returning certain things to our world, sometimes slightly changing their appearance. This fate was not spared by the plant with the Greek name "Trachelium". It imperceptibly disappeared from flower beds for several years and is gaining popularity again, decorating both gardens and premises with its rich purple inflorescences, giving them the look of antiquity and stability that is fashionable today
Decorative and healing
A perennial herb with a ligneous base has only 7 species in its ranks. In the Kolokolchikovye family, it represents the oligotypic (having a small number of species) genus Trachelium with two freely crossing species.
Information about the healing properties of Trachelium, capable of healing tracheal diseases, came to us from ancient medicine. But our plant is used as a decorative annual in the open field and a perennial grown on home windowsills.
Simple alternate leaves of the plant have an oblong shape with a pointed end and a jagged edge. The leaves are painted in a dark green color, sometimes have a lilac tint to match the purple inflorescences. The apical lush inflorescences-shields are collected from small tubular flowers.

Trachelium blue (Trachelium coeruleum) is a widespread undersized (20-30 cm tall) upright plant. From the rhizome, slightly reddish stems rush towards the light. The serrated elliptical leaves are held on the stem by reddish petioles. Tall peduncles are decorated with dense inflorescences, scutes, collected from numerous small blue or purple tubular flowers.
This species has given birth to many varieties, the flowers of which are grown for cutting. These are both potted plants and annuals in flower beds that can grow up to a meter in height. Among them are plants with white flowers (Umbrella White) and purple flowers (Purple Umbrella).

Trachelium asperuloid (Trachelium asperuloides) - ground cover plant up to 5 centimeters high. Its dense pads are composed of tiny ovoid or rounded leaves and the same tiny single or collected in inflorescences of light blue flowers with a pink tint.

Trachelium Rumelliana (Trachelium rumellianum) is a ground cover plant with serrated ovoid leaves and bright blue flowers. Some authors do not distinguish this plant as a separate species, but refer to the species "Trachelium asperuloides".
Growing
Trachelium loves slightly alkaline or slightly calcareous soils, well-drained, because in the wild it can often be found in rocky crevices.
Loves sunny places, but indoor specimens should be shaded from direct sunlight.
In summer, the plant requires abundant watering. Both overdrying of the soil and stagnant water should be avoided.
Propagated by sowing seeds and dividing the bushes in spring.
Usage
Outdoors, Trachelium is grown as curbs. Low-growing plants find shelter in rock gardens or rocky gardens located in areas with a predominantly dry climate.
Some varieties are grown for cutting inflorescences, decorating bouquets of other flowers with them. For example, the airiness of Trachelium inflorescences further emphasizes the beauty and charm of smooth-petal roses, being in the same bouquet with them. Inflorescences are often included in the bride's bouquet.
If a man wants to emphasize his exclusive attitude towards his beloved woman, to express how subtly he feels the nobility and beauty of her soul, he presents her with a bouquet of airy inflorescences of Trachelium.
Trachelium is widely used as a pot plant, decorating terraces and balconies, as well as cool rooms.
