Due to the fact that this low shrub blooms in early spring, when there are no leaves at all on the branches, it seems that the sun itself has descended to the ground and illuminates everything around. Forsythia is considered one of the most unusual and beautiful shrubs that grow on personal plots. And it’s not in vain. After all, during its flowering, it resembles a yellow fluffy ball, which pleases everyone when warm weather barely begins to set in the street. But her foliage appears much later, after flowering.
Forsythia came to us from East Asia around the 18th century and almost immediately won the love of many people. Nowadays, it can be found almost everywhere: in gardens, in summer cottages, near houses, in parks, squares and, of course, in personal plots in every locality.
Planting and breeding forsythia
Reproduction takes place using cuttings, layers or seeds. Basically, of course, grafting and layering. You can cuttings with green twigs or already lignified. First, consider grafting with green twigs. For cuttings at the beginning of summer (preferably at the beginning of June), small green twigs 15-22 centimeters long are carefully cut off, kept in a solution of stimulants for early root formation, then dripped, watered and covered with a plastic cut-off bottle (you can use a 5-liter, from under water), a thick film or an ordinary three-liter can. The principle is similar to propagation of roses by cuttings. In the fall, the plant, as a rule, already takes root. We cover it with saws or straw and leave it to winter.
Lignified twigs are cut from the mother plant in the fall, their length is the same - from 15 to 22 centimeters. And immediately buried in damp ground to a depth of about 10 centimeters. Then they cover well for the winter.
With layering, the situation is much easier. We take the twig you like, bend it to the ground, cut the bark lightly in the place where we will dig in, fix it so that the branches do not return to their original position and fill it with soil.
If you don't want to bother with layering and cuttings, or there is simply nowhere to take planting material, then just buy ready-made seedlings at any nursery or store.
Landing
If you purchased ready-made seedlings or want to transplant rooted cuttings or cuttings, then do it in the fall. For planting forsythia, warm, sunny places protected from the wind are well suited.
For planting, we prepare a hole about 55-60 centimeters long and the same width and 70-80 centimeters deep. It is imperative to pour drainage at the bottom of the hole.
For planting, it is better to take purchased land or mix garden land with peat, humus or fatty chernozem, because forsythia loves "fat" and nutritious soil, it grows very poorly and takes root on poor soils.
We put a little earth on the drainage. Then carefully place the seedling in the hole and sprinkle with prepared soil.
If you are planting several plants, then keep in mind that the distance between the bushes must be at least 1 meter.
Plant care
Caring for forsythia is simple. In the spring, under each bush, you need to add humus. Then fertilize. Forsythia needs watering only during a drought or a long absence of doges, since this plant does not like excessive moisture and can die from an excess of water.
The most difficult thing in caring for the "sun" is pruning, because if you accidentally prune the branches too much, then flowering will be very rare, and maybe completely absent. Therefore, carefully every year in the fall we trim the very tips of the branches, and in the spring we remove the frozen parts.
Wintering forsythia
Since the plant is thermophilic and does not tolerate frosts well, it is advisable to cover forsythia for the winter. For these purposes, spruce branches or a commercially available nonwoven fabric designed specifically for these purposes are well suited. Before sheltering, it is advisable to cover the soil near the plant with mulch, and bend the long branches to the ground.
If you follow these simple rules, then forsythia will delight you with its flowering every year!

Edible Sun Protection
We are looking forward to summer to enjoy sunny days. But it is always worth remembering that the sun itself is not entirely favorable to us, and being under its rays for a long time is dangerous to health.
