The cotton fiber of this species is short, about five centimeters long, firmly attached to the hairy seeds. Of the cultivated cotton species, this species has the shortest fiber, which is also coarse, which gave rise to the characterization of the word "woolly". On average, 140 (one hundred and forty) kilograms of cotton are harvested from an area of one acre (slightly less than half a hectare).
