Raspberry mosaic is a dangerous viral disease that is far from always amenable to treatment. The symptoms of this ailment are especially pronounced at the very beginning of summer, as well as with the onset of late autumn. Infected raspberry bushes are characterized by rather weak fruiting, and the berries become tasteless, tough and woody. As a rule, such berries are unsuitable for consumption. Despite the fact that infected raspberry bushes die extremely rarely, they also fail to fully recover from the ill-fated illness
A few words about the disease
When the mosaic is affected, the leaves of the raspberry root shoot are unevenly colored with alternating dark green and light green areas. All areas are irregular in shape, and their edges turn yellow. The leaves become asymmetrical and bumpy. Towards the end of summer, the leaves on the tops of young shoots acquire a speckled color.
Raspberry root shoots are characterized by gradual degeneration and thinning, and the leaves on them become small and wrinkled.
Raspberry bushes do not always die from mosaics, usually this happens only after dry summers or severe winters.
The unfortunate mosaic is caused by a harmful virus that spreads not only by sucking insects like aphids or herbivorous mites, but also with the juice of infected vegetation, as well as when infected cuttings are grafted onto healthy bushes. Quite often, the disease is transmitted by the larvae of aphids of the first and second instars. And the virus can also be carried along with the planting material, that is, with the root shoots. When pruning healthy and infected crops at the same time, intermediate disinfection of the instruments used should also be carried out.
Raspberry varieties such as Latham, King, Marlborough, Usanka, Victoria and Angliyskaya are most affected by mosaics.
How to fight
Among the preventive measures aimed at preventing mosaics, one can note the observance of quarantine measures and the use of healthy material for planting. And in order to prevent the spread of an unpleasant ailment, it is systematically necessary to carry out treatments against sucking insects. High agricultural technology is also capable of significantly increasing the resistance of raspberry bushes to mosaic.
Raspberries, just like other berry crops, are categorically not recommended to be planted after potatoes, since they have common carriers of viral ailments. It is best to take varieties for planting those that are rather weakly affected by the mosaic. These include Progress, Kuzmin's News and Yellow Spirina.
Before planting, planting material is sometimes recommended to be thermally treated, keeping it for ten to twelve days in special heat chambers at a temperature of 35 to 37 degrees. It is important to know that this method, for all its benefits, is often the reason for the subsequent oppression of plants, as well as their rather weak survival rate after planting.
With the onset of early spring, raspberry bushes are fed with nitrogen fertilizers, and as soon as the first leaves begin to form on them, they switch to the use of complex fertilizers. But in the fall, and even more so for the winter, you should not fertilize raspberries in any case.
In the spring, before and after flowering, berry bushes are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid. Also, in order to protect them from damage by harmful mosaics in early spring, raspberry plantings are treated with anabasine sulfate - for every ten liters of water of this agent, about twenty grams are taken, and then another forty grams of soap are added to the resulting solution.
Raspberry bushes with discovered signs of mosaic should be uprooted and immediately burned.
As for completely eradicating the mosaic of measures, unfortunately, they have not yet been developed.

Cabbage Mosaic
Cabbage mosaic affects different types of cabbage - kohlrabi and collard, Savoy and white cabbage with Brussels sprouts. This viral disease does not bypass a number of other cabbage plants belonging to the family - rutabagas, turnips, horseradish and radish with radish. If cabbage seedlings are affected by the ill-fated mosaic in the early stages, the losses will be especially great. Therefore, when growing seedlings, you should be especially vigilant
Pepper Mosaic
Pepper mosaic is a fairly common disease. In addition to pepper, celery, potatoes, beans, clover, peas, sweet clover, beans and an impressive amount of weeds can also suffer from it. Heavily infected crops are characterized by oppression, develop very poorly, and sometimes even die. With a defeat in the early stages of seedlings, losses are especially large. The situation is significantly complicated by the fact that getting rid of viral diseases is extremely difficult
Gooseberry Mosaic
The gooseberry mosaic is also called vein border. Berry bushes affected by this disease practically do not grow and bear fruit very poorly. Aphids are considered the main vector of gooseberry mosaic, therefore, the fight against harmful insects must be included in the complex of measures to prevent this scourge. And, of course, it is equally important to follow the basic rules for growing this crop
Tomato Mosaic
Tomato mosaic is a viral disease, the harmfulness of which is directly dependent on the growing conditions of this popular crop, its varieties, as well as the age of the plants. Most often, this ailment affects tomatoes grown in insufficient lighting. Infected cultures develop very poorly, are characterized by oppression, and sometimes even die. The largest losses occur if the seedlings are affected by the mosaic in the early stages
Plain Cucumber Mosaic
An ordinary mosaic, in addition to cucumber, often attacks cabbage and beans with dill. It can also attack parsley, peppers, lettuce and tomato. This is the most harmful kind of mosaic. The growth of the crops attacked by it is significantly inhibited, their internodes are gradually shortened, the bases of the stems often crack, and the area of leaves and the number of flowers decreases. As a rule, this attack is found mainly in greenhouses, however, on the territory of the Voronezh region, one can
