The unpretentious perilla (sudza) in the south is grown by sowing seeds directly into the ground or greenhouses; in Central Russia, the seedling method is used. Let's consider in more detail the technology of cultivation of this crop

Seedling preparation

Stiff-like seeds of sudza must first be soaked in water for two days, periodically changing it to fresh water. Then place in a rag in the refrigerator for 12 hours for hardening. The grains do not need stratification.

We start the procedure at the end of March. We prepare boxes 8-10 cm high with holes in the bottom. We pour a mixture of humus, peat, sand or perlite in a ratio of 1: 2: 1 (0, 5). We cut grooves every 10 cm, with a depth of 0.5-0.7 cm. We moisten the soil. We spread the seeds evenly every 2-3 cm. Sprinkle with a thin layer of earth. Cover with foil.

After a week and a half, shoots appear. We gradually remove the shelter, accustoming the "young" to the conditions of the room. Water in moderation. We replace water for the prevention of black leg with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. We feed 2 times a month with the fertilizer "Baikal", according to the instructions.

At a young age, perilla is good for transplanting from boxes directly into the ground. Optionally, you can use the second option. A month later, the seedlings dive into cups. The root system develops more powerful, at a faster pace, and is not injured in the future.

Care

The onset of consistently warm weather is a sure sign that the Sudza is moving to the beds. Lush bushes take up a lot of space in an adult state, so they use a planting scheme of 30 by 40 cm. In a row, more often, there are more aisles. At the same time, each copy receives enough light for its development.

Since autumn, the soil is filled with rotted manure, humus, a glass of ash, a nitroammophoska matchbox per 1 square meter of the ridge. Thoroughly dug to the depth of the arable layer.

In the spring they harrow with a rake. Pits are formed, watered. The roots are straightened from the seedlings from the boxes. Sprinkle with earth at the level of the lower leaves. For tall varieties, pegs are placed. During the season, they are tied to a support several times to exclude windfalls. After 2 weeks, pinch the growth point so that the bush fluffs up.

Remove weeds. After watering, gently loosen the top layer. The moisture is covered with mulch made from sawdust, chopped grass, peat. They feed "Kemiroi Lux" 2 times a season a tablespoon in a bucket of water: 2 weeks after moving to the garden and the first haircut.

Harvesting

As the lateral branches grow up to 10-15 cm, the ready-made greens are cut off. Before flowering, the second batch of products is removed. Further, the stems become rough. In the fall, the remaining leaves are cut off. A large amount of essential oils is gained by sudza during the period of bud formation.

Landscape design

Beautiful, spectacularly colored leaves of certain varieties attract the attention of designers. They are used in the interior of the house, office premises. The pleasant aroma of greenery contributes to the creation of a cozy atmosphere, increases the emotional mood of people. In summer, the pots are transferred to terraces, gazebos, decorate the facades of buildings, and placed in pots.

The perilla planted on flower beds creates an excellent dark background for bright undersized representatives: geraniums, begonias, violets, cineraria, lobelia, alyssum, verbena, arabis. Practice group and single landings. Low-growing varieties of suza perfectly set off the greenery of the kochia, located in the background or in the center of the composition.

Perilla bushes easily tolerate multiple haircuts. By correctly shaping the crown, the desired volumes are obtained without problems. Giants turn into fluffy dwarfs no more than 20 cm tall. The pruning technology is waste-free, the excess parts of the stem are used for food purposes.

Useful properties of sudza, medicinal, culinary uses will be considered in the next article.
