Cabbage pests - sometimes you can almost completely lose the harvest if you do not find the pest in time and start an operational fight

Of course, the modern variety offers an abundance of different chemical remedies. However, such chemicals can adversely affect both your health and the quality of the crop itself. Therefore, a competent combination of both chemical remedies and folk methods seems to be optimal.

To prevent the emergence of pests, fertilizing the plant, and digging the soil, and competent alternation of garden crops will also allow. From time to time, the planting site of a particular crop should be changed, which will ultimately lead to the timely reduction of pests. In this case, the accumulation of infections will be minimized. Therefore, it is recommended to transfer the plant to the old place after at least four years.

Digging should be done without fail in the fall. This method is very effective in killing various harmful insects. Thanks to digging, pests appear on the surface, which will lead to their death from frost and precipitation. Those pests that do not get to the surface will fall into deeper layers of the soil, which will ultimately lead to their death.

Fertilizers are not capable of destroying pests, but this will promote plant growth and enhance the action of their defense mechanisms. As a result, such measures will help to avoid and prevent the appearance of pests.

As an alternative to chemical pest control, hand-picking insects that do not move much is a good option. These include larvae, caterpillars and Colorado beetles. By the way, the use of a vacuum cleaner will allow small insects. All these insects should be destroyed, for this purpose they will need to be placed in a container where there is a strong solution of sodium chloride or an emulsion of kerosene. The flea beetle can be caught using sheets of plywood or thick cardboard, which should be greased with an adhesive. Such sheets must be dragged through the rows of plants, preferably several times.

Light traps are suitable for dealing with moths. A cup should be placed next to the light source, in which there should be a quick-acting poison. Insects will fly into the light and fall into this cup.

In addition, smells that will attract insects can be called a good way to fight. For example, you can put fresh cabbage leaves in cardboard boxes. It is recommended to do this at a time when cabbage butterflies fly. They will fly to the smell and lay their eggs in the box, and not on the plant itself. Then these boxes must be destroyed.

The so-called nectar plants should be planted on the site, they will attract insects that may be useful. Such plants should include parsley, dill, lemon balm, coriander and other crops that have an active scent. These crops should be planted throughout the site, and not in one specific place. This will attract beneficial insects, which will help in pest control.

To combat various pests, those plants that grow in your summer cottage are also suitable. For example, an infusion of potato or tomato tops will be a fairly effective remedy for combating spider mites. It is very simple to prepare such an infusion: you need to grind the tops and fill it with water. After that, you need to let it brew for at least two hours, then the solution is filtered and the plants are sprayed with it.

To combat caterpillars and moths, a decoction of bitter wormwood is also suitable. First you need to dry out the plants. Then a kilogram of wormwood is taken and boiled in a limited amount of water for ten to fifteen minutes. After cooling this solution, the volume must be brought to ten liters. The resulting solution should be sprayed every seven days until the caterpillars are completely destroyed.
