In the autumn season, gardeners acquire seedlings of flowers and plants for future plantings. During this period, they will need a lot of responsibility and attention, because the planting material must be of high quality and effective
What difficulties will a gardener face?
Back in the days of the Soviet Union, there were specialized nurseries, where it was possible, without bothering, to acquire really good varieties and planting materials. However, now the situation has changed dramatically, and often in stores they sell seedlings of not quite proper quality.
Very often, modern sellers cannot provide the necessary information regarding the plants they sell. That is, they will not be able to give advice and advise the correct and high-quality seedlings of crops. Sometimes this deceptive sales path is created on purpose. Therefore, it will be very difficult for a newcomer to the world of gardening to find good varieties of trees, shrubs, flowers or plants. Often sellers characterize a product with non-existent properties - for example, winter hardiness, yield or colors.
For this reason, it is necessary to advise gardeners to buy plants for a summer cottage only in specialized nurseries, where professionals in their field work, who will accurately tell about the reliable characteristics of each culture. Such owners of nurseries have no interest in misleading the summer resident, because then next year he will again come to them for a purchase. But not everyone has the opportunity to apply to such nurseries, and as a result, you have to look for worthwhile seedlings in the market or elsewhere.
How to choose seedlings on the market?
First you need to decide on the type of culture (and preferably the variety) that the summer resident wants to buy. They must be suitable for the region where the plant is planned to be grown. Then, while familiarizing yourself with the assortment of the market, you should inspect each seedling. Good plants have a well-developed root system and a fresh look. Do not pay attention to dry planting material.
Usually on the market there are seedlings with an open type of root system. It is important to immediately inspect this particular part of the plant, because this fact depends on its quality, how quickly and easily the plant adapts to the new planting site. The seedling should not contain dry root processes. They should be flexible and light in color at the break. Otherwise, the seedling is unlikely to please the gardener with fruits, if at all.
Among the sellers, you need to choose those who themselves store the plants sold. This can be determined by many nuances. The root system of such a product is packed in a protective material - sawdust or wet moss. Even just a damp cloth speaks of the seller's concern for their seedlings. But if the planting material is placed in buckets of water, then you should not buy such plants. Many crops die from an excess of moisture and then do not take root in the soil.
The ground part also plays an important role in the selection of seedlings. Trees that are too sprawling and thick trunks should be avoided. Basically, tree seedlings are one to two years old. Therefore, their appearance is most often modest and compact. Too large seedlings are not a guarantee of quality, but quite the opposite. Most likely, they were brought from the southern regions or simply used growth stimulants.
After choosing a seedling, you do not need to rush and buy the product right away. First, you need to demand documents from the seller. A good seller without hesitation will provide all the information about the nursery. Saplings purchased in the autumn should be planted in the appropriate time frame. Then the root system will leave for the winter already strong and resistant. Consequently, in the spring, the results of such a planting will pleasantly surprise.
Each seedling must be labeled when marketed. It contains information regarding the plant (variety, age, nursery, etc.). The root system should not have excess growths and damage. Branching and the absence of sex are considered its good properties. When buying seedlings with a closed root system, you should make sure that the crop has been grown in a pot for a long time.
Many gardeners purchase seedlings from online stores. It is more difficult to choose high-quality seedlings here. However, the helpers in such a difficult matter will be the reviews of buyers who have already tested on themselves, or rather in their garden, the goods of buyers. More often than not, good manufacturers have numerous responses from satisfied customers on the Web.
