Novice gardeners need to know everything about planting procedures for growing tomatoes. Seed preparation is an important fact not only to improve germination, but also to prevent diseases and increase yields. Read about all the preparatory stages that begin in the middle lane from the 10th of February
Seed preparation methods
At home, seeds are prepared in different ways. In total, 8 techniques are used: rejection (sorting), soaking, hardening, disinfection, biostimulation, heating, bubbling, germination. It is not necessary to use everything, everyone can choose two or three methods.
The processing of planting material begins with tall tomatoes. They take longer to grow, so they are planted earlier. After a couple of weeks, the preparatory procedure is applied to medium and short cultivars.
We warm up the seeds
Experienced gardeners use a gradual increase in temperature. A month before landing, they start from +20, bringing to +80. Amateur gardeners simplify these actions and simply put them on the battery. Under the seed bags on the heating radiator, make a backing from old linen / rags. 2-3 days are enough for warming up.
Seed sorting
It is known that a large, well-filled seed produces high-quality seedlings, as it contains more energy and nutrients. From such specimens, strong, stress-resistant shoots with strong immunity grow.
We sort the seeds using a saline solution, which is prepared in a glass of water with the addition of 1 tsp. The prepared solution is thoroughly mixed and settled for 15 minutes. Now pour out the tomato seeds, stir, wait a minute until completely wetted and air out. We check: substandard specimens will all remain floating, the most valuable thing for us will be at the bottom of the glass. It is them that we will plant.
We remove the floating ones, collect the remaining full-weight seeds, rinse them from salt, dry them on a napkin. After such culling, if you do not plan other activities, you can plant the next day.
Bubbling
Bubbling is the saturation of water with oxygen, that is, soaking the seeds in oxygen-enriched water. To do this, use an aquarium compressor. The process takes place in a jar with water not lower than +20. We fill up the seeds, turn on the air supply and leave the boiling for 12 hours. Finally, dry until flowable.
Disinfecting tomato seeds
The method of disinfection is mandatory for seeds of our own production, purchased purchased processing is not necessary, but desirable. Such a procedure helps to cleanse the seeds of pathogenic bacteria living on the surface. This helps to avoid contamination of future sprouts. Several methods of disinfection (etching) are used.
1.
Hydrogen peroxide … A 2-3% solution is used in which the seeds are kept for 6-8 minutes.
2.
Potassium permanganate. You need a 1% solution (by eye this is a medium saturated color), which is heated to 40 degrees. The holding time is 5 minutes.
3.
Fitolavin. The drug is active against bacteriosis, causative agents of black leg and other diseases. Etching time - 5 minutes.
Seed biostimulation
After pickling, to improve the quality of seedlings and fruiting, it is recommended to give recharge. To do this, a stimulating solution is made, in which we soak tomato seeds for a day. From folk remedies, it is aloe or potato juice. From the purchased ones: Energen, Biostim, Silk, Immunocytofit, Virtan-Micro, Epin, Ecopin, as well as potassium and sodium humates.
Soak
If you have not used the previous options, soaking the tomatoes is essential. If there are several varieties, you need to eliminate confusion. Therefore, fabric bags are made for each type (wrapped in gauze, bandage). In a saucer of water, you need to hold for about 12 hours. It is recommended to change the water three times (after 4 hours).
Germinating seeds
Quite an important procedure that accelerates germination, shortens the growing season. To do this, a bed made of cloth, paper towels, cotton pads, etc. is arranged in the vessel. It is advisable to take filtered water, without bleach. The laid out seeds should be kept in a humid environment until they begin to hatch.
Hardening
Seed hardening has been proven to increase yields by up to 30%. Soaked seeds that have begun to hatch are periodically placed in the refrigerator - this will have a beneficial effect on further growth, the tomatoes will be resistant to temperature extremes, the seedlings will turn out to be more stocky and stress-resistant. Three doses are done with an interval of 6-10 hours. For example, for the night in the refrigerator, and for the day in the room.

A Little About Preparing Seeds For Sowing
It's a shame when work is invested in the seedlings and the future harvest, and suddenly the plants begin to hurt and die. Where does such an attack come from, when the soil is clean, and the greenhouse is disinfected, and the seeds with high germination capacity? The fact is that an outwardly healthy grain can be initially infected with a disease. And in order to protect the crop from being damaged by bacterial, viral and fungal ailments that are transmitted through seeds, before sowing, you need to take time to disinfect them
Preparing Tomato Seeds For Sowing
It seems that quite recently the harvest of the past summer was harvested, and the hot time of preparation for the new season is already approaching again. This is especially true for those gardeners who grow tomatoes on their plot. The full cycle of processing tomato seeds is quite long, and if you omit such measures, this will largely affect their taste, resistance to diseases, pests and vagaries of the weather, and as a result - the final harvest. So what needs to be done before
Seeds: What You Need To Know Before Sowing
No wonder they say that in the garden one day - feeds the whole year. This rule is equally true for both summer and winter days. After all, if in winter we visit our summer cottages less often, this does not mean that work has stopped. And if empty columns are now found in your gardener's calendar, urgently plan and enter into them the preparation of seeds for sowing. Otherwise, both early harvest and friendly seedlings will be in jeopardy
Methods For Preparing Seeds For Sowing
On the eve of the next sowing season, it can be difficult for a sophisticated gardener to resist not to acquire many new interesting varieties of vegetable crops. And often the hands do not reach the next experiment, and the seeds remain lying until the next season. Meanwhile, seed germination becomes lower, germination energy decreases. And for such overwhelmed bags before sowing, it is imperative to carry out measures to increase germination and reanimate the potential inherent in them
Winter Sowing With Coated Seeds
Podwinter crops have a lot of undeniable advantages. Thanks to this technique, you can not only significantly unload yourself during the spring harvest. This will also ensure a more efficient use of winter moisture by seeds sown in autumn, due to which they swell more quickly and give amicable shoots, which means an early harvest. However, it is possible to further improve the quality of seedlings if you apply such a method of pre-sowing seed treatment such as pelleting
