Planting clematis

Add 2 glasses of wood ash to the soil mixture for each planting hole. If several clematis seedlings are planted in a row, a distance of about 1 m is observed between them.
It is better to purchase seedlings with a closed root system. When choosing planting material with open roots, make sure there are at least five of them, and the total length is approximately 50 cm.
For clematis with an open root system, before planting, the roots are slightly pruned and left for several hours in water. Those that were bought in pots or bags are carefully removed from the temporary container and immediately moved to a new place of residence. If possible, it is better to cut this container so as not to shake the flower out of it upside down and the earthen lump remains unchanged.
The planting of clematis is carried out with the deepening of the root collar. This is especially important in regions with cold winters - this will allow you to sit better during the cold season. But if the seedling looks weak, it is better not to cover it immediately with a high layer of earth. In this case, the pit is filled with soil mixture gradually, in such a way as to finish with this work by the fall.
When planting, the seedling must be cut by a third. In the first year of life, clematis is not allowed to bloom. The buds are removed from the shoots so that the perennial grows the root system. Closer to winter, plantings are cut off and hidden under spruce branches.
