If your strawberry plantation turns three, it's time to consider moving it to a new location. And April is just the right time for that. Of course, you can postpone these things to the summer or autumn, because strawberries are convenient because this crop can be planted during the season in three terms. There are advantages to planting in spring, however. And they are not only in a higher yield compared to planting at a later date

Benefits of spring planting

So, what results can you expect if you plant strawberries in April? These terms will provide an excellent harvest next year. The peculiarity of the culture is that flower buds are laid in the second half of summer. And in those specimens that will be planted in spring, in addition to a large number of flower buds, a good leaf apparatus, strong rosettes will already form. Then it will be easier for the perennial to winter. You can count on similar results when planting strawberries not only in April, but also in May.

It is worth noting that although strawberries are a perennial plant, it is not recommended to grow bushes for more than three to four years. And when you change the place for the plantation, you also need to update your planting material, replacing the old sockets with young seedlings.

Strawberry beds are arranged at a distance of about 40 cm from each other. The planting of plants is carried out no closer than 25 cm. When the gardener prefers not to raise the beds, but to arrange a flat surface under the plantation, it is recommended to increase the row spacing - up to about 60 cm.

Before planting, it is advisable to take measures to prevent diseases and pests. In particular, the seedlings are treated with hot water (about +45 degrees C) from the tick.

Landing will be more successful if the weather is cloudy outside the window and the air humidity is increased. Seedlings should not be buried deep in the soil so that the apical bud does not end up underground. When the weather is dry for a long time, after moving the strawberries into the ground, you need to immediately water the plantation.

Strawberry plantation care in spring

What to do with a young plantation after hibernation? First of all, garbage, weeds, dry leaves are removed from the beds. You also need to be especially careful not to leave leaves and other parts of plants on the plantation that show signs of fungal infection. If the leaves have shrunk and shriveled under the pathogenic effect of the tick, the plantings should be treated with acaricidal preparations.

Another must-have technique that will also help detect weeds is loosening the beds around the plants. This must be done carefully, without immersing the tool into the ground by more than 5-7 cm. At the same time, you will notice that in the spring the strawberries rise slightly above the soil level. Therefore, in the process of loosening it, they huddle it, but not too high - so that in windy weather the socket does not dry out.

And strawberries are in dire need of moisture during this period. Since it leaves in winter with a green leaf, with the arrival of spring, there is a strong evaporation of moisture from the plate. Meanwhile, the plant does not receive nutrition from the frozen soil. If watering is carried out without loosening, the water mostly splashes over the surface. But moisture will be absorbed well into the loose earth. Another technique that will help retain moisture in the soil is to mulch the plantation.

In addition to loosening and watering, strawberries need to be fed. For these purposes, urea, ammonium nitrate are used. Before flowering, it is recommended to carry out three dressings. Nitrogen fertilizers are applied in dissolved form. In order not to burn the root system, it is better to carry out this procedure after watering.
