How to grow large peppers?

It seems that many gardeners necessarily plant one or two beds in their dachas, or even more sweet bell peppers. This type of vegetable crop is one of the most beloved in Russia. It is safe to say that dreaming of planting and growing Bulgarian pepper, summer residents cherish another dream in their hearts - that the pepper is large. But not everyone succeeds. How to grow large bell peppers in a garden plot?

The size is directly related to the variety

Pay attention to the variety of vegetable if you want it to be large in size. Pepper seed packages usually indicate the average weight of the size of each pepper. For example, "Gift of Moldova" will give fruits with a volume of no more than 90 grams. Although if you try very hard, fertilize the soil, monitor the prevention of pepper diseases, you can get fruits up to 120 grams. As you can imagine, this is a very small size for each pepper.

The same can be said about the varieties of bell peppers "Belozerka", "California miracle". But it should be noted that such varieties steadily tolerate the poor care of an inexperienced summer resident behind them, give a lot of peppers on one bush, are quite fruitful.

However, if there is a desire to collect larger fruits from each bush, you will have to buy hybrid varieties of bell peppers. Such as "Gromada", "Titanic", "Viking", "Merchant" and others. They cost several times more expensive than varietal seeds, but the yield and, most importantly, the size of the ripe fruits will be very worthy for them. Alas, sometimes even with very good expensive seeds, some gardeners manage not to get an excellent harvest. These are the tips given by experienced summer residents in growing large thick-walled peppers and increasing their yield.

Do I need to shape?

Old-time gardeners, according to the good old habit, form "from the heart" bell peppers, breaking out their inflorescences and pruning the shoots. This was done mainly by gardeners when the pepper grew in the greenhouse. In the open field, the benefits of plant formation will be much less.

Overlook and halve the entire future harvest in this way. After all, pepper, everyone knows, is a very capricious garden culture. The soil was a little dry or dry strong winds blew, so the ovaries fell on them or the flowers themselves.

However, some formation techniques still need to be carried out, in the opinion of modern gardeners. The first flower should still be removed on the bushes, so as not to delay their further development. If you grow pepper from your own seeds, then on the contrary, leave the first flower in order to get the most productive and high-quality seeds from it afterwards. Again, only if you are using non-hybrids, since in the second year the results will not please you with the fruits and evenness of the fruits from such seeds.

Shoots should also be removed, but without much zeal. Only the weakest ones from each fork. And you should always leave at least two shoots without removal.

On high-yielding varieties of pepper, when forming 2-3 flowers in each fork, it is recommended to remove them. But you try to leave them on some bushes to insure against strong dropping of the ovary.

As for feeding peppers, this should be done according to the schemes recommended for your soil in which the plants are planted.

How important is watering?

Top dressing, fertilization, bush formation, even a variety may not have much value in the yield of a crop if the wrong irrigation regime is maintained for it.

The classic recommendation that is suitable for all regions of our vast country and many vegetable crops - the "golden mean" and watering often and little by little - is not suitable here. Pepper loves moisture, and it is necessary for him. But the aridity, cracking of the soil in the place of its growth, it is always the danger of torn roots in the pepper bush and damage to the fruit with apical rot.

A kind of experience was carried out by specialist farmers. The field with the planted peppers was divided into two parts. Both parts were regularly fed with fertilizers, sprayed from pests. The cultivars of the planted peppers were also identical on both parts of the field. The only difference in care was that one part of the field was watered day and night, the other abundantly, but once a week.

As a result, the first field, abundantly watered every day, produced large bushes of plants, strewn with large fruits. The second part of the field consisted of nondescript bushes, most of the fruits on which were affected by phomosis and wilting. The crop yield in this part of the field was very low. So judge for yourself, the choice of the mode of watering the pepper is always yours.
