Do you want to turn your home into a picturesque tropics in a short time? Then you need to get a houseplant like chlorophytum. This flower, which in its homeland, in South America, is also called the Flying Dutchman, will quickly take new pots with its children. The bushes grow strongly, and very soon your window sills and flower stands will resemble a real jungle

Chlorophytum care

Chlorophytum is a very unpretentious houseplant and it is not at all difficult to create favorable conditions for it. It is not only beautiful and will harmoniously fit into any interior, but also very useful in the house. This flower is famous for the fact that it needs a lot of carbon dioxide to feel good. And therefore, despite the fact that the temperature here is often higher than the recommended one, he will be comfortable in the kitchen, where he will perfectly cope with the function of cleaning the air in the room from combustion products and other harmful impurities - formaldehyde vapors, nitrogen oxide.

For the maintenance of chlorophytum, it is recommended to take well-lit corners of the house with diffused light. This is especially true for variegated varieties, so that their contrasting color does not fade in the absolute shade. The optimum temperature in the room for plants is +18 degrees C. From May until serious autumn cold snaps, the pots can be taken out into the fresh air in the garden, but on hot days the pots should not be left under the scorching rays of the sun.

This is a moisture-loving flower and in the summer months you need to moisten the soil in the pot abundantly. However, it suffers short periods of drought. If you leave it for a week or two without watering, the flower will not disappear - it prudently stores nutrients in its root system. In addition to watering, spraying is useful for the flower. Once a month, it is thus convenient to make foliar dressing on the sheet. In addition to spraying, chlorophytum is also given a shower. It is also recommended to wash dust from leaves.

In winter, irrigation is carried out in moderation. It is better to reduce the temperature of the content to +15 degrees C. It is undesirable to leave the flower near heating radiators - in warmth and surrounded by dry air. In such conditions, the tips begin to dry out. By the way, this problem also arises when the earthen coma is waterlogged. Errors in the content need to be corrected, and damaged ends must be cut off, and the flower will very soon be transformed for the better again.

Reproduction of chlorophytum

Chlorophytum is propagated in several ways: by sowing seeds, transplanting a lateral bunch of basal leaves, children, dividing a bush. It grows very quickly in a pot and therefore requires replanting every year. The best times for this are the last days of winter - the beginning of spring. The soil mixture for chlorophytum is made up of ingredients in the following proportions:

• sod land - 3 parts;

• deciduous land - 2 parts;

• sand - 1 part.

Another telling name for the flower is green lily. And like its close relative, chlorophytum produces a long peduncle, on which, after flowering, miniature rosettes with tiny aerial roots develop.

Chlorophytum flowers are unimportant and do not represent any particular aesthetic value. And the plant itself belongs to the group of decorative deciduous pets. But several children on a thin long shoot, as they grow, become a magnificent decoration of a luxurious bush, and in the future - an excellent material for plant propagation. They are cut off when they are about two fists in size. It is not necessary to root the children in a glass of water - they are immediately placed in the ground and irrigated. Young plants take root very quickly in a new place.
