An amazing oleander conquers almost everyone: a tall shrub with very delicate and beautiful flowers, grows both in the room and on the street, besides, it is incredibly picky, practically does not require maintenance. This has led to the fact that the amazing shrub is very often used in landscape design, and also grown as an ornamental houseplant
By the way, in the wild, it is found only in the subtropics. Hence, we can conclude that this is a heat-loving southern plant. It really is. But at the same time, an unpretentious oleander can easily withstand a short-term drop in temperature as much as minus ten degrees Celsius!
Where can it be grown?
If you live in the southern regions of our country and your winters are not particularly cold, then oleander can easily be grown on the street anywhere. For the winter, it will be possible to slightly wrap the plant and that's it. Although the winter of the Rostov region and the Krasnodar Territory, this plant can withstand even so.
But in the middle lane and in the north for the winter, oleander must be brought into the room, for example, on the veranda, in the summer kitchen, in the corridor. Therefore, it is undesirable to plant it in open ground, so as not to injure the plant by constant transplants into the ground and back into the pot.
Planting oleander and its reproduction
Reproduction of this plant is done by cuttings. If there is nowhere to take the cuttings, but you really want to grow this amazing shrub on your site, then you will have to purchase a bush in a specialized store, from which you subsequently get material for cuttings. It is advisable to plant a purchased plant in open ground in the spring, at any time. But rooted cuttings are planted in a flower bed only in early spring, when it gets warmer.
Care and feeding
Caring for the plant is very simple: timely watering, top dressing, shelter for the winter. It is necessary to water the oleander as needed, preventing the soil from completely drying out both in the pot and in the open field. Since this plant is subtropical, it is used to constantly moist soil. Accordingly, you need to try to maintain conditions as close as possible to the "native" conditions of this handsome man. By the way, do not forget that you need to water not only during the period of active growth of the bush, but also during the dormant period. Watering is carried out only with water at room temperature, do not pour cold water, otherwise you will destroy the plant!
If the room is stuffy, hot and the air is dry, then spray water from a spray bottle several times a day.
Top dressing is usually done with complex or any other fertilizers from any gardening store. The main thing is the regularity of this operation, the frequency of watering with fertilizer - at least once a month, especially if the plant is actively blooming. Fertilizers should be applied according to the instructions on the package.
Bloom
This beauty blooms for a long time: it starts in June, ends in October. At the same time, you can observe an amazing sight: in the inflorescence there is a bud, a flower, and an ovary at the same time!
Pruning
This operation is performed only after flowering! Please be careful and in no case cut the plant before it blooms, otherwise you risk missing an incredibly beautiful sight: the sight of a blooming oleander.
With the help of pruning, they form a beautiful crown of the plant, and also regulate the density of the branches.
Transfer
Oleanders growing in pots must be transplanted into a larger container every couple of years, such a frequent transplant is simply necessary for a growing shrub. They are transplanted by the transshipment method, that is, they are carefully transferred from one pot to another, trying as much as possible not to damage the earthen ball and roots of the bush.
Wintering
Oleander hibernates in a cool place, the air temperature should be from three to ten degrees Celsius. In this case, a short-term drop in temperature up to ten minutes is allowed. Any cool room is suitable for wintering.
