Round-leaved sundew is one of the plants of the family called sundews, in Latin the name of this plant will sound as follows: Drosera rotundifolia L. As for the name of the family of the round-leaved sundew itself, in Latin it will be like this: Droseraceae Salisb.

Description of round-leaved sundew

The round-leaved sundew is known under the following popular names: love-grass, dew, sundew, crabgrass and crabgrass. The round-leaved sundew is a herbaceous insectivorous plant, the height of which will fluctuate between seven and twenty-five centimeters. The leaves of this plant are basal, outstretched, long-petiolate with a rounded plate, the diameter of which will be about one centimeter. Such a plate of a round-leaved sundew will be covered on the upper side with reddish glands that secrete a sticky liquid. The fruit of this plant is a multi-seeded capsule, which will open with three leaves.

The flowering of the round-leaved sundew falls on the period from the end of July to the end of August. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Belarus, the forest zone of Ukraine, the forest zone of Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus. For growth, the round-leaved sundew prefers the banks of forest streams and peat bogs. It is noteworthy that this plant is poisonous to cattle and sheep.

Description of the medicinal properties of round-leaved sundew

The round-leaved sundew is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for therapeutic purposes it is recommended to use the entire aerial part of this plant together with a rosette of basal leaves. It is recommended to harvest such medicinal raw materials throughout the entire flowering period of this plant. In addition, it is quite acceptable to use the roots, which should be harvested during the autumn period.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content in the composition of this plant of tannins and dyes, anthocyanic acid, organic and phenol carboxylic acids, ascorbic acid, naphthoquinone derivatives, as well as a proteolytic enzyme, the action of which will be similar to pepsin.

Rosyanka round-leaved is endowed with very effective diuretic, antispasmodic, sedative, antispasmodic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and antipyretic effects. The drink and tincture, prepared on the basis of the herb round-leaved sundew, is recommended for use in case of pharyngitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, laryngitis, whooping cough, fever, acute and chronic bronchitis.

In addition, the round-leaved sundew is endowed with the property of inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi. It is noteworthy that until the appearance of antibiotics, this plant was used to treat pulmonary tuberculosis. As for traditional medicine, here this plant is quite widespread. Traditional medicine uses this plant as an antiepileptic, mild diaphoretic and antiemetic agent.

In case of bleeding and diarrhea, it is recommended to use an aqueous infusion prepared on the basis of the rhizomes of the round-leaved sundew. In addition, such an infusion should also be taken as a diaphoretic. For faster healing of both hemorrhoidal cones and wounds, it is recommended to apply crushed grass of round-leaved sundew to sore spots. For periodontal disease, a decoction is used based on the herb and rhizomes of this plant.
