We are all looking forward to summer, and with it - warm sunny days, bright juicy greenery and a riot of flowers. It turns out that you can make it so that the summer in your house will be constant, regardless of the weather outside the window. All that is required is to create a winter garden
Previously, winter gardens were used to decorate houses of culture, sanatoriums and hotels. To organize such an exotic corner in the building, a large space was required, so the creation of a winter garden at their home for many remained just a dream. Now it has become quite real: such gardens are arranged in an apartment, on a loggia or in a private house, allocating a whole room for him. The modern winter garden is a quiet, cozy place for relaxation, surrounded by beautiful greenery.
The first winter gardens appeared in England in the 19th century, when it became fashionable to arrange glass extensions in their homes called the conservatory. The rich Englishmen decorated the architecture of their homes with such gardens. A little later, similar gardens began to appear in Russia. Most often, a whole structure was allocated for a winter garden, adjacent to the master's house. Fountains and benches were erected here, exotic birds were raised, and unusual fruits were grown. In such a garden one could walk and enjoy the lush flowering of plants even in winter. Nowadays, people with different incomes can afford a winter garden. Therefore, there can be a lot of design options for an exotic corner.
The main types of winter gardens
There is a wide variety of winter gardens, differing in their functional purpose, location relative to the main building, area and temperature regime. Therefore, it is customary to distinguish between the following types.
Residential winter garden
Such a garden usually occupies a large area and has the function of additional living quarters. Optimal climatic conditions for humans and plants are created here. In such a garden, you can equip a place for rest or work, decorating the space with various green plants and flowers.
Buffer garden
This type of garden most often looks like an unheated extension to the main building: a veranda or a vestibule. Thanks to the glass structure, the sun's rays penetrate here, which contributes to heating the house. A comfortable temperature regime for plants is observed here only in spring and autumn, so only their temporary placement is possible.
Winter garden - greenhouse
The greenhouse is created primarily for the cultivation of various exotic plants and is especially popular with collectors of these plants. The room for it is chosen most often non-residential with a certain microclimate, something similar to a decorative greenhouse. Plants for the greenhouse are selected depending on temperature indicators and the presence of a heating system.
Winter garden in the apartment: what you need to know?
Not everyone can afford a winter garden as a separate extension. However, you can organize such a wonderful green corner in your apartment. Then the home will become much more comfortable and cozy, and the blooming greenery will delight the eye even when it snows outside the window.
In order to properly organize such a winter garden, you should adhere to some rules:
- Do not pile too many plants in one place, just put one big beautiful flower in the corner of the room.
- Plants should be grouped according to their watering and moisture preferences. So, cacti can perfectly ally with succulents, and tropical vines with dracenas, dieffenbachia, ficuses and orchids.
When placing plants, do not forget about the basic rules of phytodesign:
- taller plants look good in the background, while lower ones look good in the foreground;
- tall, slender plants are best combined with low and wide ones, large-leaved ones - with small-leaved ones, and dark green ones - with light-colored plants;
- Placing plants on a light background will visually increase the area of the room.
A self-made winter garden can become the embodiment of the most beautiful ideas and designs. Such a wonderful oasis will not only be a decoration, but also a cozy resting place from everyday worries.
