Patrina medium is one of the plants of the family called valerian, in Latin the name of this plant will sound like this: Patrinia intermedia Roem et Schult. As for the name of the Siberian patrinia family itself, in Latin it will be like this: Valerianaceae Batsch.

Description of the middle patrinia

The average patrinia is a perennial herb, the height of which will fluctuate between thirty and fifty centimeters. Such a plant will be endowed with a rather large and many-headed rhizome, as well as thin and many-branched roots. There are only a few stems of the average patrinia. The leaves of this plant are smooth, opposite, pinnately dissected, endowed with linear serrated lobes, and the lower leaves are petiolate, while the upper leaves will be sessile. The flowers of the middle patinia are painted in bright yellow tones, they are rather small in size, endowed with a five-lobed corolla and a rather large calyx, and such flowers are collected in a corymbose-paniculate inflorescence. The fruits of the middle patinia are slightly fluffy achenes, which will be surrounded by a membranous and overgrown seed plant.

The flowering of this plant occurs in the period from June to the month of July. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in the southern regions of Western Siberia, as well as in the Tien Shan region and the Semirechye in Central Asia. For the growth of patrinia, the average prefers pebbles, rocky and open rocky slopes, coastal sands in the mountains and foothills.

Description of the medicinal properties of patrinia average

Patrinia average is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the rhizomes and roots of this plant. Such raw materials should be procured during the second half of the summer season and autumn.

The presence of such valuable medicinal properties should be explained by the content of saponins and alkaloids in the composition of roots and rhizomes, and an individual saponin was isolated from the sum of saponins, which is called patinoside D. Such a substance is crystalline and colorless, it is endowed with a rather bitter taste and will be readily soluble in water, ethyl and methyl alcohol, but it will not dissolve in acetone, chloroform, benzene and ether. Also, this plant contains sugars, organic acids, tannins, patrisidum and essential oil. The essential oil of Siberian patrinia is a rapidly crystallizing mass, which is endowed with a pungent taste and unpleasant odor.

Due to the presence of saponins, this plant will be endowed with very effective sedative properties. It should be noted that a tincture prepared on the basis of the roots and rhizomes of this plant will be very similar in its pharmacological effect to a tincture based on valerian officinalis, while in comparison with valerian, this plant has twice the effect. With cardioneurosis, insomnia and neurotic conditions, it is recommended to use alcohol tincture based on this plant, about fifteen to twenty drops. As for traditional medicine, here the average patrinia has become quite widespread. Here this plant is used for scrofula, jaundice, pulmonary tuberculosis and gastroenteritis. In addition, Tibetan and Mongolian medicine uses medium patrinia as a very effective antitoxic and wound healing agent. Also, this plant is used as a pain reliever for hepatic and renal colic.
