A rare person can admit that he is completely indifferent to viburnum. Its bright juicy berries are incredibly healthy and delicious. Ascochitous spot of viburnum
On the leaves of the viburnum, angular or rounded grayish specks appear, framed by purple or dark brownish edges. And on the undersides of the leaves, you can see unpleasant olive-gray specks. Closer to autumn, on necrotic areas, the formation of point dark fruit bodies of the fungus begins. All previously formed spots crack and dry out, and their centers quickly crumble and fall out.
With the onset of autumn, all infected and fallen leaves should be collected and removed. And in the spring, as soon as tiny buds begin to bloom, viburnum bushes are sprayed with either copper oxychloride or the well-known Bordeaux mixture.
Fruit rot of berries
This ailment manifests itself in the form of drying out of berries, leaves, flowers and young viburnum shoots. In the summer, the berries attacked by a malicious scourge are abundantly covered with tiny and rather dense gray pads. And after a while they turn black and gradually mummify.
Closer to autumn, all mummified berries must be removed. Also, viburnum bushes are treated with copper oxychloride - both before and after flowering.
Gray rot
Especially often this infection affects viburnum in years with rainy and rather cold summers. First, vague specks of brownish shades form on the leaves, which after a while grow, dry out and immediately crack. With increased humidity in the infected areas, a mycelium plaque forms, painted in smoky gray tones and filled with a huge number of harmful spores, instantly re-infecting the leaves located in the neighborhood. Brown diseased berries also gradually dry out, as a result of which the pathogenic mycelium penetrates them through and through. By the way, smoky bloom of sporulation can form on berries over time.
In the fall, you need to collect all the leaves fallen from the viburnum bushes and destroy them as quickly as possible. If the lesions with gray rot are too large, then the berry bushes during the growing season are sprayed with a preparation called Vectra.
Powdery mildew
Fortunately, powdery mildew is quite rare on viburnum leaves. You can see its manifestations on your favorite berry bushes only in a too humid and very cool summer - under such circumstances, extremely favorable conditions are created for the most active spread of pathogen spores.
And in order to protect the viburnum bushes from possible damage by this ailment, in early spring they are treated with the drugs "Strobi", "Vectra" or "Topaz". It is allowed to treat plants with copper-soapy liquid (40 g of soap and 100 g of copper sulfate are diluted in ten liters of water).
However, such a drug as Fitosporin will also bring a lot of benefits. Another effective tool is wood ash purified from coal particles - you can simply pollinate the bushes with it, or you can prepare an ash infusion for subsequent spraying. And for preventive purposes, it is recommended to process viburnum throughout the season with onion, garlic or tobacco infusion.
