How to recognize hawthorn disease?

Hawthorn, like all other crops, is not immune to damage from a wide variety of diseases. And, unfortunately, he is amazed by them quite often. Most recently, the trees were saved from powdery mildew, and are they already showing signs of spotting? In order to make the correct "diagnosis", it is important to know how the symptoms of various diseases manifest themselves on the hawthorn. And on the eve of the summer season, it's time to get acquainted with them

Brown spot

When affected by this scourge, a huge number of brownish spots are formed on the upper sides of the hawthorn leaves, framed by dark thin edges and reaching 6 mm in diameter. These spots are not only round, but also angular spots. After a while, dotted light-brown fruiting bodies of fungi appear on the specks formed. Almost always, brown spotting leads to rapid drying of the leaves.

At the beginning of summer, a characteristic bloom appears on the leaves of the hawthorn, which is a mycelium with numerous spores. It is not at all necessary that it will be whitish and cobweb - it can be felt, grayish in color and quite dense. As a rule, the color of the plaque is determined by the genus of the fungi infecting the plant. Gradually, the plaque of the mycelium begins to darken and dry out, and after a while, the formation of countless point fruit bodies begins on it.

In the case of a particularly severe lesion, infected hawthorn leaves turn brown and dry out quickly, the shoots begin to slowly deform, and characteristic blurry specks of dark color can be seen on the tree bark - the mycelium usually hibernates in them.

Gray spot

On hawthorn leaves, attacked by gray spots, small rounded gray spots are clearly visible, equipped with a border of darker shades. At the same time, all the specks are chaotically scattered over the leaf blades. And on the infected tissues, the formation of black point fruit bodies gradually begins. A particularly strong harmful attack develops closer to the end of summer.

Ocher spot

This ailment mainly affects the leaves of the hawthorn. Approximately in the middle of summer, small or rather large rounded spots without bordering are formed on them. Most often they are colored brownish or ocher and are randomly scattered over the leaf blades. In the infected areas, the formation of fruiting bodies of the fungus almost always occurs, in which the pathogen will subsequently hibernate. For diseased leaves, rapid drying and premature falling off are characteristic.

White spot

In the middle of summer, on the leaves of hawthorn attacked by white spotting, numerous small rounded specks, painted in dark brownish tones, can be seen. As the disease develops, the middle of the spots begin to brighten, and by autumn they become white and outlined with clear brown edges. Fruiting bodies of the fungus are formed on all specks. Infected leaves, turning brown, dry out, and too much infection often leads to premature fall of the foliage.

Wood rot

Infection of trees with this disease occurs through basidiospores, which are formed on the surfaces of fruit bodies. And inside plants, the pathogen most often penetrates through wounds. The mycelium gradually penetrates the cores of tree trunks and skeletal branches, rather quickly spreading from the affected areas both down and up. As a result of such transformations, wood loses its former strength and changes its consistency, and infected trees are characterized by instability to snowballs and windbreaks.
