Rotala round-leaved, also called rotal Indian, is found in natural conditions in the water bodies of distant Southeast Asia. Sometimes this beauty can be found in the Transcaucasus. In aquariums, she also feels very comfortable and develops excellently in them all year round. However, in order to make the design of the aquarium original and beautiful, it is better to place several copies of the round-leaved rotala in it at once, since individually its branches do not look so impressive. Close to the side walls of the aquarium, this aquatic beauty looks especially good
Getting to know the plant
Rotala rotundifolia is a spectacular long-stemmed plant showing good growth rates in both aquariums and humid greenhouses. The stalks of this aquatic inhabitant grow up to twenty-five centimeters in length.
The rhizomes of Rotala round-leaved are creeping and endowed with a large number of leaf buds and light, pronounced adventitious roots.
Light green and incredibly delicate leaves up to a centimeter long sit on the stems of this marvelous plant in pairs. The leaves of this bizarre aquatic beauty come in two varieties - surface and underwater. Very thin underwater leaves usually grow up to one centimeter in length and are painted in incredibly juicy green shades. And the above-water leaves of the wonderful aquatic inhabitant have a rounded shape, which, however, gave rise to its name.
If you provide good lighting to rotale round-leaved, then the undersides of its leaves will begin to paint in pleasant reddish shades. This green pet is able to quickly form luxurious side shoots, turning into very dense and compact bushes. However, there are certain disadvantages in such her ability - during the formation of lateral shoots, the lower leaves of the round-leaved rotala are shaded, as a result of which they often turn pale, and sometimes the lower parts of the stems are completely bare.
How to grow
Tropical aquariums are considered the best option for keeping the wonderful round-leaved rotala, the temperature in which should be maintained within twenty-four degrees or more. A drop in temperature can easily provoke the cessation of growth of rotala rotundifolia.
This beautiful green pet does not have to be grown exclusively in the ground (however, it takes root in it perfectly) - freely floating on the water surface, it also feels quite comfortable.
The aquatic environment is ideally preferable to be soft, however, moderately hard water will also be quite suitable for the full development of round-leaved rotala. And the reaction of water can be both slightly acidic and neutral.
A prerequisite for the cultivation of this water beauty is the constant maintenance of the purity of the water, as well as its systematic replacement by about a quarter of the total volume. These measures are extremely important for the reason that the turbidity in the water has a negative effect not only on the growth of a wondrous plant, but also on its appearance.
The most optimal and suitable lighting for keeping the marvelous round-leaved rotala will be light of moderate intensity. At the same time, it is important to know that in the event of a lack of light, it will gradually begin to stretch in length and lose its former color saturation. And if the lighting is excessive, then the formation of destructive algae will begin on the round-leaved rotal. Evidence that the most optimal lighting was found for this aquatic inhabitant is the light pinkish tint of its leaves. Sunlight also plays an important role in the full development of rotala round-leaved, but it must necessarily be well dispersed. As artificial light sources, fluorescent lamps are most often used, combined with local illumination in the form of simple incandescent lamps. An unpretentious round-leaved rotale usually needs twelve hours of daylight hours, and there is no point in increasing it.
Well, this beautiful green pet reproduces in a vegetative way - by cuttings or by separating tiny basal shoots.
