In order for the plant to surprise with variegated leaves and a beautiful appearance, you need to make some efforts in relation to the care and cultivation of the flower. Experienced flower growers often achieve the appearance of new crotons, since these plants can be propagated even at home. There are three methods for this: cuttings, air-layering or sowing of ordinary seeds.

How to propagate croton using cuttings?

The simplest, but at the same time, quickly yielding result, croton breeding method is referred to as cuttings. In such a situation, you can enjoy receiving planting material for twelve months a year. At the same time, in this case, not only the upper parts of the shoots with active points of growth take root, but also cuttings on stems with one leaf, a bud in the bosom and a small part of the stem. Often, this method of reproduction is also called leaf propagation.

In such a situation, when only one leaf is used as a material for propagation, strong roots will come out of it, but the development of the flower will stop there. For an excellent result, you also need a kidney, because in its absence, the shoots simply cannot begin to grow. Only with the presence of a bud can an attractive appearance of the plant be obtained. With regard to the season, it is better to cut cuttings with the onset of spring, while the shoots have not yet entered the stage of active growth. When cutting off the cuttings from the top of the plant, it is necessary to ensure that their length varies from six to ten centimeters. Then the plant will be able to form strong and large roots, and then a small, but already stable, trunk. Cuttings from plant stems are obtained by cutting, making sure that as a result of the procedure, it is possible to obtain one internode, which includes an adult leaf and a bud. The ideal option here would be a cut from healthy shoots of a lignified nature.

Croton reproduction is a question that interests not only beginners, but also quite experienced flower growers. In this process, it is very important to avoid mistakes and shortcomings in order to very quickly start enjoying green healthy plants in your home.

Cutting points on plants always emit liquid in the form of milky sap. Therefore, after the procedure, it is necessary to treat them by drying with a napkin or rinsing with water. The leaves located in the upper part of the shoots are rather large, but they can have a weakening effect on the cutting and take away useful components from it. To avoid this situation, these leaves must be pruned. If the leaves in the lower part of the shoot interfere with the formation of strong roots, then they should also be eliminated altogether. The next stage is the exposure of cuttings for flower propagation in the air for one and a half to two hours. And only then the planting material can be put into warm water to a depth of several centimeters.

However, competent preparation of croton seedlings is only half the battle. It is necessary to ensure that during the propagation of croton with the help of cuttings of water for rooting, it has a temperature of twenty-four to thirty degrees. An excellent option would be to use funds that stimulate the formation of the root system.

In the event that the liquid is cold for a long time, the formation of roots is slower. Soon the process will stop altogether, and the young seedling itself will die due to decay. But even if the water has a warmer temperature, more precisely, above thirty degrees, the roots will also not grow quickly, and the risk of bacteria development increases several times. Before the seedling is carried out and dug into the soil, they must be placed in bright sun throughout the daylight hours.

After the root system is formed on the cuttings necessary for the propagation of the plant, there is no need to wait until its elements become much longer. It is much more convenient and better to plant plants in the ground, the roots of which are only two or three centimeters in size. There are many advantages here - for example, the absence of root damage during the planting process and the faster development of crotons.
