Common figs are also known under the following popular names: wine berry, anzhir, hekhik, fig tree and common fig tree. Common fig is a monoecious tree, endowed with gray bark and a fairly wide spreading crown, the height of such a tree will be about seven to ten meters. The flowers of common figs are collected in a kind of inflorescence, from which the fruit will develop. Such fruit, depending on the variety, can have a pear-shaped, spherical or flat shape. The seedlings of this plant are covered with a thin skin, which can be peeled off quite easily, exposing the delicate pulp. Common fig leaves are quite large in size, they are alternate, can be either three- or five-lobed. Below these leaves are light, they are dark green in color, such leaves will be pubescent, they are endowed with a very peculiar smell.

Common figs bloom in the period from April to May. It should be noted that this plant is one of the most ancient cultures. Common figs are native to Asia Minor and Syria. This plant got to the Caucasus and Crimea only later. Now the plant can be found in some regions of Central Asia, in the Crimea and in the Caucasus.

Description of the medicinal properties of common figs

Common figs are endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the fruits, roots and leaves of this plant. Fruits should be harvested around August-September, the leaves are harvested in April-May, and the roots can be harvested both in the spring and in the fall.

The most valuable are the fruits of common figs, which is associated with the content in the composition of about forty percent of sugars, including glucose and fructose, as well as proteins, potassium salts, calcium salts, vitamins, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, fiber, acetic, oxalic, apple and citric acid. In the fruits of this plant there is a plant enzyme called ficin, which will be endowed with the properties of fibrinolysin.

As for traditional medicine, it is recommended to use the fruits of this plant to cure various thromboembolic diseases. Due to the presence of a large amount of sugar and potassium, such fruits are considered useful for various diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Common figs are endowed with a mild laxative, expectorant, diuretic, emollient, enveloping, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect. The healing properties of this plant are widely used in folk medicine in various countries. If you cook ordinary figs in milk, then it should be used for acute catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, bronchitis, bronchiectasis and tracheitis. It is recommended to drink such a decoction in half a glass two to four times a day in the presence of various diseases of the urinary tract and kidneys, urolithiasis and anemia.

Decoctions and jams from this plant should be used as an antipyretic and diaphoretic, and such funds will have a positive effect on bronchitis, tracheitis and laryngitis. To prepare the broth, take two tablespoons of dry seed fruits in a glass of milk or water. With the same broth, you can gargle with sore throat or take about one hundred grams by mouth two to four times a day for constipation and gastritis.
