Ixiolirion (lat. Ixiolirion) - a flowering perennial, once belonging to the Amaryllis family, and now representing the Ixiolyrion family of the same name. This plant has been introduced into cultivation since 1874.

Description

Ixiolirion is a perennial flowering plant with vertically directed stems covered with linear, whole-edged leaves. The length of these oblong leaves can reach thirty centimeters, and their tips are usually pointed. And the height of this plant is usually in the range from ten to fifty centimeters.

At the very beginning of summer, incredibly cute flowers open at the tips of the stems, gathering in attractive loose inflorescences. These whimsical bell-shaped flowers boast funnel-shaped perianths. And all flowers have a bluish or bluish tint!

The fruits of ixiolirion look like small leathery bolls, and the ovate or fusiform corms of this garden beauty are covered with dark brown outer leathery scales. The length of the corms usually reaches seven centimeters, and their width often reaches three centimeters.

The genus of this plant is very small - it includes only four to seven species.

Where grows

Iksiolirion is quite widespread in the southwestern part of Asia. In addition, it is found in the vastness of Western Siberia or the Caucasus.

Usage

Ixiolyrion will look very good in rock gardens - it goes well with a wide variety of plants! It will look especially great next to primroses, daffodils or tulips. This handsome man takes root well on rocky slopes, in addition, it is quite permissible to use it in cuts.

Growing and caring

Ixiolirion will feel best on garden soils (in general, it is undemanding to soils, but in any case, they should freely let air and moisture pass through) and in well-lit areas. However, this plant will also be quite comfortable in partial shade. Ideally, ixiolirion is planted on insignificant heights, since in the lowlands during the melting of snow, the risk of waterlogging of the soil increases significantly, which in turn can lead to root diseases leading to the death of the plant. It is also better to immediately abandon the idea of planting this plant in well-ventilated areas - Ixiolirion reacts extremely negatively to drafts.

Ixiolirion is a drought-resistant plant, therefore, as a rule, additional watering in the summer season is not required for it. The only exception is if the summer turned out to be too hot and mostly without precipitation: in this case, the ixiolirion will need moderate moisture. This beautiful plant should be watered with soft and warm water, which has managed to settle for at least a day.

The soil near the bushes must be systematically loosened, at the same time eliminating all weeds growing around them. And in the spring-summer season, Ixiolirion will be very happy with good feeding. By the way, a universal nutritious mixture specially designed for flowering plants, which is best applied in liquid form, after diluting with water at room temperature in a 1: 1 ratio, is quite suitable for these purposes.

Ixiolirion propagates either by corms or seeds, while reproduction by corms is always much more successful than propagation by seeds. This handsome man is transplanted not so often - once every five to six years. With regard to diseases, sometimes this plant can be affected by root rot.
