Beautiful daylilies are widely used by designers to compose complex compositions. Bright colors, unusual shapes allow you to come up with original designs for flower beds. Health, longevity of plantings directly depends on proper crop care. What agricultural techniques allow you to quickly grow chic bushes?
Care
Bright colors, the size of the inflorescences directly depend on the care of the Krasnodar. During an extended dry period, additional watering will be required. Top dressing is applied twice per season: at the beginning of the growth of the vegetative mass in the spring, during flowering. Complex fertilizer "Ideal" is used.
Regular weeding will help get rid of competitors. Gentle surface loosening, soil mulching, will save moisture for plants, prevent soil compaction around the root collar (the place where new buds are formed).
It is not necessary to tie up tall varieties. The arrows of the peduncles independently cope with the weight of the buds. Withered inflorescences are removed so as not to disturb the decorative effect of the composition.
Use in the garden
Daylily is a versatile garden decoration. Suitable for difficult mixborders, solitary plantings, alpine slides. It goes well with low and high neighbors.
Miniature varieties of Krasnodnev with a height of 30-40 cm will fit well into the composition on an alpine slide. Pansies are planted nearby, several varieties of creeping sedum, saxifrage, tenacious pink-white, burgundy shades. Low-growing varieties of platycodon, bells of white-pink colors set off bright red-pink daylily buds. For a slide at the foot of the main culture, annual plants are planted: alissum, lobelia, torenia, thin-leaved marigolds, ageratum.
Solitaire plantings, made up of different varieties of daylily, matched by color, texture, bud size, flowering time, will create a colorful Persian carpet pattern on the flower bed throughout the season. The unequal height of the arrows will give the picture three-dimensionality in space.
Curtains of daylily bushes look picturesque against the background of the lush greenery of the lawn. Coniferous shrubs (junipers, thuja, spruce), azalea, spiria, rough action, red-leaved barberries will be an excellent background partner.
Contrasting colors of Krasnodnev are planted next to the house with respect to the facade of the building. Purple, burgundy, scarlet inflorescences look organic against a light background. The dark cladding of the buildings is set off by yellow, cream, pink buds.
Daylilies planted next to phlox of the same range give an incredibly fabulous effect. Miniature inflorescences of neighbors, collected in caps, repeat the color of large buds of Krasnodnev.
Breeding methods
Varietal daylilies are propagated in two ways:
• vegetative (dividing the bush);
• seed.
The first method completely preserves all the properties of the mother form.
Dividing the bush
Expensive hybrids of the latest generation are characterized by slow growth. Older varieties give 2-3 additional shoots per season.
Plants older than 4-5 years of age with a good root system are separated. The operation begins at the beginning (May) or end (August) of the growing season. Dig up the plant completely, carefully clean the roots from the ground. A sharp knife is cut from above the connections of adjacent "fans". Releasing intertwined rhizomes.
Each section should contain a shoot with good underground stolons. The damaged parts (cuts) are sprinkled with ash, left in the shade under a canopy for several hours to heal the wounds. Trim the ends of the leaves at a level of 10-15 cm, reducing evaporation. Prepared bushes are planted in a permanent place, watered, shaded with a box.
Do not try to split the shoots by hand without a knife. In this case, you can break the integrity of the upper part with the buds, tear off the leaves without roots. In rainy weather, open wounds rot.
We will consider seed reproduction in the next article.
