All kinds of salad and spinach plants are otherwise called green (not "green", but "green", with two letters "n") vegetable crops. They are used both fresh and boiled
What green crops are valued for
Green crops are natural storehouses of substances useful for the human body. They contain a wide range of vitamins, which are important mediators of vital processes in the body, mineral salts, carbohydrates and vegetable fats.
The most popular crop among green plants is, perhaps, Salad.
What is the value of salad
•
Early maturity - in 2-3 weeks after sowing, lettuce leaves are ready for consumption.
•
Vitamins in the absence of summer - lettuce can be grown all year round, placing containers with plants on home windowsills.
• High
medicinal properties - salad is a panacea for the digestive system, improving its work, forcing gastritis and peptic ulcer diseases to calm down. With diabetes, salad is an excellent dietary product. To calm the nervous system, get rid of pain, you need to squeeze the juice of the salad and replace it with some of the fluid you consume. If insomnia overcomes, an infusion of lettuce leaves will help. For nursing mothers, infusion from seeds will replenish milk "rivers".
•
Unpretentiousness in cultivation - although fertile soil is required, there is no need to arrange special beds. The lettuce can be sown in fertilized vegetable and berry beds, using it as a temporary compactor or as a lighthouse crop (to mark the rows of the main crop with a long germination period).
Varieties of salad
•
Sheet - a huge number of varieties of lettuce have been bred. For example, "Moscow Greenhouse", successfully and rapidly growing both in the open field and under the protection of greenhouses. "Tornado", which does not grow as fast as the previous one, but is distinguished by high yield, excellent taste and resistance to stalking. "Dubachik", light green, slightly wavy leaves of which are in no hurry to give life to flowers that take away useful elements from them, and also easily make up for the losses from brothers cut off for dinner. “Roblen”, which makes up for the “lunch losses” of its dark red beautiful and vitamin leaves, is mid-season.
•
Kochanny - is valued higher than lettuce, slowly displacing it from garden beds. But it requires certain conditions for high yields: long daylight hours; fertile and sufficiently moist soil; seedlings are cold-resistant; avoids acidic soils.
From early maturing varieties popular "Pervomaisky", "Rizhsky", "Yellow stone head", "Ramses", which give a harvest in 1, 5-2 months after sowing. For 10 days longer varieties grow: "Festival", "Krupnokochanny".
•
Romain (with an elongated head of cabbage) - the salad, which the ancient Romans enjoyed, is gaining popularity in our area. Its light bitterness gives the salad a special charm. You can eat it fresh, or stew it like white cabbage. Unlike lettuce, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks without losing its beneficial properties. The known varieties differ in the color of the leaves: "Winter Green", "Winter Red".
•
Asparagus (with a strongly thickened stem) - in our country such a salad is still exotic, but in Southeast Asia it is the most demanded winter salad. Growing it requires certain conditions, with which not every gardener wants to bother. The long growing season is also a disadvantage for the popularity of its cultivation. Those who cope with the difficulties will enjoy slightly bitter juicy leaves with a refreshing taste. And its stems will replace nutritious asparagus, since their taste strongly resembles it.
Growing and caring
All salads love fertile, well-fertilized organic, moist soil. During the dry season, watering is required, as is vital to regularly loosen the soil.
Salads with a short growing season manage to give two or even three harvests during the summer season, if time intervals are taken between sowing seeds. The seeding depth is 1-1.5 centimeters.
Salads are often grown as a compactor for major vegetable crops or as a lighthouse crop.
