Cucumbers are one of the most popular types of vegetables in summer cottages and villages. But we should not forget that sometimes such crops are subject to various diseases, which can be caused by certain factors. For example, the planting of the same vegetable crop in the same place for several years or improper disinfection of the greenhouse or soil often adversely affects the health and normal development of cucumbers
Melon aphid
The melon aphid, as a rule, damages the ovaries of the inflorescences, the flowers themselves or the shoots of the plant. In most cases, it provokes curling and shrinking of the cucumber bush. Cucumbers are especially susceptible to the appearance of melon aphids in the second part of summer, from mid-July to the end of August. By the way, the development of the disease in vegetables in such a situation occurs rapidly. At first, the summer resident will be able to notice yellowish spots on the fruits or different places of the cucumber bush, after which dark green lesions appear. In just a few days, the melon aphid infects all the leaves, the lower part of the bush and cucumber leaves. As a control method, it is necessary to weed the garden bed completely, removing even barely noticeable weeds, since, most likely, the disease has passed from them. In addition, it is necessary to spray the cucumber bushes with a tincture of fresh red pepper. Here, in addition to him and ten liters of hot water, you also need to add two hundred grams of tobacco dust. It is necessary to insist the solution for at least a day. It is good if, after cooking, add wood ash and liquid soap in small doses to the mixture. One liter of the mixture is used for one square meter of the plot.
Greenhouse whitefly
Greenhouse whitefly can harm not only cucumbers, but also tomatoes. Its defeat consists in the suction of liquid from the leaves of vegetable crops. That is why, during the period of illness, the plant can notice sugary whitish discharge. And already on them you can notice the formation of sooty fungi, which is why the leaves of vegetables turn black and dry out. First of all, whitefly is transmitted to plants from weeds. As a consequence, it is necessary to remove them from the entire site. Doors and vents in greenhouses must be closed with one layer of gauze, and traps on an adhesive basis must be placed there. Spraying leaves and other plant elements with clean water is also a good option. It is most effective to rinse the lower leaf area, where a large number of whiteflies always accumulate. After this procedure, you should loosen the soil to a depth of two centimeters or add peat and sawdust here.
Powdery mildew
Powdery mildew is a very common disease of cucumbers in the middle lane. This defect can affect cucumbers at any stage of development. Even seedlings are often exposed to this kind of trouble. A powdery mildew infection persists for six, or even seven, years. It is simple to understand that this particular disease appeared on the plant: cucumber leaves begin to form spots with an oily structure on themselves. They are usually green. They can increase their size for up to ten days. As a result, the plant looks like a burn-affected crop. Eventually, the leaves of the cucumber bushes begin to turn brown. After that, the plant dries up in three days. Most often, the disease appears due to sudden temperature changes. Watering with cold water or cool rain can also cause illness. After the first symptoms of powdery mildew, you need to stop watering and feeding the plant. At least for a week, these processes must be stopped for sure. When the moisture near the cucumber bushes becomes less, it will be possible to spray with the "Topaz" or oxychoma treatment.
Brown "olive" spot
Brown spot, or as it is also called "olive", is another common disease in cucumbers. This defect can form on a plant due to watering vegetables with cold water, high humidity levels or constant temperature changes. It can also cause olive blotch and draft. At first, the plant becomes weakened. Pathogens can remain in a situation where disinfection is poorly carried out. The disease manifests itself in the form of miniature sores with a brown tint. There is also a release of fluid. Sometimes the ulcers cover all the fruits completely. In no case should you eat such cucumbers. Just a week of olive blotch is enough to destroy all planted plants. At the first signs of illness, you need to stop watering and ventilate the greenhouse in warm weather.
